I read this morning where Ford is trying their best to get Elliott to run Fords next year in a limited outing, possibly racing 10 races. Rumor has it that it would be in a Yates car. Then I also read that Childress seems to be looking at Bill to run his #30 car! (If that happened, his daddy would really twist and roll over in his grave) Then too, Bill could be getting tired of all this and hang his helmet up all together.

As a long time fan of the Awesome one, I'd love to see him do his thing in whatever car (as long as it was #9) but the car would have to be capable of winning. I don't think that Evernham will give up the number 9, so Bill finishing in a #9 Ford is probably out of the question. I think that Ray would like to have Kasey Kahne so that he could drive the #9 car when Bill isn't, but once again, Ford is supposed to have the last say in this. I've read where Ford would give up Kasey if Bill would drive a Ford in his final season, but once again, that would mean that Bill would leave his present team. Now if Bill's present CC, Mike Ford leaves that camp, and I've read where that might happen, it would seem to make it easier for Bill to also leave, but that also means that he would leave the place he's been for many years. (Evernham bought Bill's shops in Statesville and that's where they are located today)

So, here's really what I'd love to see for next year with Bill. Bill driving a #9 Ford Thunderbird, sponsored by Coors and taking the checkered flag at Darlington. :)

What'cha think?

I think you took the words right out of my mouth! Give Bill a no holds barred, maxed out Ford and let him go out in a blaze of glory! Chevy public enemy#1 again! Man that would be sweet to see. :)

Oh how I remember those years when the Chebie camp cried and moaned about Elliott. I'd love to see that happen again.

Yep. In '85 in particular Elliott was the man.Damn good in '87 as well. No question of that---those years seem far away now and it is just a little sad that some of todays younger fans never got a chance to see Bill back then. Similar in a way to how Ryan has came on so strong this year. Face it guys: Nascar legislated Bill out of contention. France's remark of Bill "stinkin' up the outhouse" is one very very telling remark in retrospect.....and a perfect foreshadowing of the current era. Sad.

For him to run a ford it would have to be a roush or yates powerplant, when ernie built his engines for the 94 the only time he was competitive was at talladaga and daytona.

I'd like to see Elliott retire in a Ford, but not at the expense of the future. Life can to tough some times.

Yeah, but when Ernie was the crew chief for the #9...the Chevy fans...opps, I mean the Nascar Brass (Bill Jr.)was changing the rules to make it more competitive for GM because of how dominate Bill was.

Like letting Chevy bring the Lumina in... the FIRST front wheel drive car into WC Cup racing. Even though DW blames the Taurus for the down fall of WC racing...most long time fans know the air bag is full of sh*t and realize it was the Lumina that brought down Nascar as far as running what ya brung! Nascar also allowed Chevy to expand the wheel base of the Lumina to match the Thunderbird & still it was a dog..that's why they went back to the Monte Carlo after four years. Dale was the only driver able to be competitve with the Lumina...guess it proves how good he was.

yea your right back in the day ernie and bill was unstoppable, but now nobody has the edge.

But isn't that what NASCAR really wants? I guess for many fans, that's what it's all about, 43 cars taking the field each week with anyone of them able to win. As for me, I like to see three or four cars who have the advantage and work it out amoungst themselves. They make better rivals that way and isn't that what it's really all about? Back markers are just that...back markers. Oh well, such is life in NASCAR. :(

It would appear Bill still has a little left in the tank after his win at the Rock. Congrats to Bill. :salute:

Yes congrats to Bill. :bounce:

Congrats to "Awsome Bill"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ray said on trackside that even if Bill retired, they had a deal and Bill would remain part of Evernham Motorsports for a long time, so I don't know about these Ford rumors.

I was surprised when he went with Ray and Dodge to start with, He, and his Dad have owened a Ford dealership forever.

I read the other day that Bill wont retire unless Ray can find a good replacement for him in the 9 car. So far that hasn't happen. :D

I also remember that Bill wouldn't leave unless Ray had a good replacement for him. I wouldn't think that Ray could afford to give up the 9 especially if he has a young driver just because of the owner points situation.
