LOUDON, N.H. -- Bill Elliott is considering a full-time return to the Nextel Cup series next season.

Considering Elliott is Toyota's Team Red Bull, which already has signed Brian Vickers to drive one of its two cars when the foreign manufacturer debuts in NASCAR's premier series.

"If the right deal comes available, yeah, I'd consider doing it,'' said Elliott, who will start last in Sunday's Nextel Cup race at New Hampshire International Raceway for the Toyota team of Michael Waltrip Racing.

Elliott, 50, hasn't run a full-time Cup schedule since 2003, when he finished ninth in points for Ray Evernham Motorsports. He ran six races in 2004 and nine in 2005.

He is signed to drive five races this season for Michael Waltrip Racing and three for Team Red Bull.

Waltrip said on Friday that Jeremy Mayfield has an offer to drive his third Cup car, leaving Team Red Bull as Elliott's most viable option.

Elliott hasn't decided whether his full-time return would be for more than one year.

The rest of the story

Seemed to me that during a recent interview Awesome Bill was leaning towards coming back full time in 2007.

He told someone I know, that he was going to help his son. That meant he was keeping it part time. I guess he changed his mine. He's better at asphalt racing than dirt track racin. LOL

He is setting the table for his son to get into Nascar some day. I think also he enjoys the challenge of helping a new manufacturer get into the sport, much like he did with Dodge. The terms have to be just right for Bill to come back full time though, i also think that the Sponsos will play a huge role in this. What Toyota team wouldn't want him because of his Champions provisional!
