Lost the pole to Rick Crawford by one one thousandth of a second.

"I'm trying to get over the fact that we lost the pole by just one-thousandth of a second. The lap was one of those where you can definitely say that there was no more left on the table. I did everything I could to extract all I could out of that No. 8 Dodge. It was a breath of fresh air to have Bobby (team owner, Hamilton) work with the No. 8 team, work with my crew chief Jeff White, and work with my pseudo-crew chief Kip McCord who's gone on to some larger responsibilities. It's really relieving for us to have picked up, essentially, four-tenths of a second over what we practiced both yesterday and today. I don't think anybody would have expected us to do what we did. It's really a big vote of confidence to the guys to take what I've told them - with as little experience as I've had - and turn that into a Dodge that did just about everything that I asked of it."

Wow, that's a real shame for Lester. I've met Lester before and he really is one of the most friendly drivers I've ever met. Any word on if he's going to be driving that #8 next year again?

Haven't seen or heard a thing about Bobby's driver roster for next season. He may be spending much of his time trying to nail down what he is going to be driving.

I hope that Bill keeps the ride for at least another year and if things pan out maybe can catch on with a BGN team and so on.

Wow.....can't say much more than that but my gosh what a break out. That is BIG News. A modern day Jackie Robinson. Hope he makes it.

Wonderful that he recognized Bobby's work near the box. Now if he can only keep from trying to cheat the rumble strips on the dogleg he might be ok today. Funny that ol Wendell was known to carry a gun while driving in the early days.

Not sure how Phoenix is looking this morning but here in Vegas we got big wind and clouds with showers happening around noon......and btw, it never sprinkles in the desert. Would imagine Phoenix to be almost as windy even if it does miss the storm.

Anyways, with Bobby near the pitbox to help with the pit calls, the thinness of Phoenix, Bill's road course experience, and the horses they got under the hood, if the over the wall crew doesn't blow it I'ld say Bill has about the best chance for a top five or even a win he's had all year.

Go Bill.

Forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid 70's for both today and tomorrow. Winds in the 5 - 10 mph range.

Best Luck to Bill.

Catch the race live on ESPN2 today at 3:00 ET

I am most concerned about his tendency to hook the strips I've noticed. Almost like he's sitting too low in the cab. I guess changing from the little open wheel wheel's to the bigger ones might be the problem tho.

That IS where he came from right?....dern, now I gotta go check.

Nope, sports cars.....GTO

i think its great and he had a decent finsih (15) i do support him and i actually watched the race today also congrats to happy harvick!

With this being his first year in any kind of stock car or truck, he has been very consistant. He's done a pretty good job, I'm impressed. I think if given the oppurtunity to come back next year, he'll be much more competitive. I wish him luck.

I hope he gets another year in that truck to show what he can do. I think him and that team are just starting to really come together, and there's a great deal of potential to what he could do in that truck next season.

He's doing a TON better than Willy T. Ribbs was doing in that truck.
