Yup, it's a killer. One of the guys sisters worked for a travel mag and she would got us the same efficiency time share at the Maverick in Ormond Beach for years. $70....for a week....split between 6-8-10+ guys. Sleeping bags on the floor everywhere!
Our plan B. Guy runs a day party boat up here in the summer, in the fall he takes it to Stewart Fla. and runs out of there. His wife was overjoyed  to have us for guests for a week...
Most restaurants have higher food & drink prices during speedweeks too.
Making hay while the sun shines.....

btw the hotel lobby had laws passed so that you can't crash for a night in mall parking lots anymore

I don't doubt the insane jacking up of hotel prices has hurt attendance the past few years. What could be done about it I dont know. Supply and demand etc.

Its the same situation in Daytona when Bike week rolls around in March. Most places have 3-5 night minimums. I have paid close to 500 for the same place I have had for under 100 at other times of the year

Another comment: the free market works. If you don't like the high prices, stay further away. When I go to Daytona, I stay in St Augustine. When I go to Talladega, I stay in Atlanta. Hotels don't have you over a barrel if you are willing to drive a bit.

The free market works very well. Most of the good places are booked a year in advance. I like being close so its just something you have to accept.

I prefer the camping. It may not be for everyone but having an RV is a huge plus when attending a NASCAR race. I've never paid more than $100 total for a weeks stay @ any track I've been to. The only downfall is the added cost of the trip to/from the track vs. simply taking a car. From what I'm reading, that cost would be offset by only one night's stay at a local hotel to the track.

When we go to Daytona, which is often, we stay at Tomoka State park. Since I'm a senior and a Florida resident the fee is $12 a night. It's a beautiful place with great campsites. It's an easy 20 minute drive to the track even before and after the race. Practically everybody else is going away from the beach which is the way to our campground. I make reservations six to eight month's ahead of time to get a good spot. We do this at every track we go to.

St. Augustine is a great little city. It's not that far of a drive from Daytona.

There are some things I spend silly money on and then there are some smaller things I get on my high horse about like charging for parking in Vegas at many of the Casinos. It isn't the amount of money for the parking but the principle of me going to a business and spending (losing?) money and being charged for the privilege of parking my rental car. I support the Casinos right to charge for parking and for motels to charge 150 per night for a flea bag but they ain't getting it from me.

I remember going to the Las Vegas Cup Race in 2007 and it was $113 a night for a dumpy roach moach 1 star motel, mind you it's Vegas which I'm guessing is at the top of the list of most hotel rooms in a given city.

...back then there was 52 cars qualifying for 43 cars also for that race, so the economy was better.

People are really complaining about this? I swear some NASCAR fans and drivers would complain if the sky was too blue.

Proceed with caution aunty

But then again..... I could more than likely pay for several 500 dollar a night motel rooms and it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of a 70,000 dollar R.V. that I only used a few times a year and had to pay the upkeep and watch it depreciate in value.....maybe the 500 dollars is a bargain...... I don't know..... as for me..... I'm not going going either route.... I'll just watch from the comfort of my home and when the race is over......... I'm home..... I'm one of the live spectators they have lost......

They were jacked up for the Rolex as well. Don't stay in Daytona, especially on A1A. Plenty of other places within a half hour or so that are a lot cheaper.

Like I said, it may not be for everyone. I use mine so it's worth it. It's not something that I bought for the sole purpose of attending NASCAR races. That is just an added bonus.

Yep. We use ours at least five or six times a year. We're kicking this year off in mid March with a spring break trip to this place. We have site #02 on the lake and near the bathhouse with power, water and a dump station for $10 a night. It's miles and miles from anywhere. :D

I used to have a couple of small inexpensive travel trailers that could be pulled with a half ton truck and they were fun for trips up to a few hundred miles from home. I have a small cottage on a chain of lakes so I don't have time for an RV but they sure are a lot of fun if you have the time to enjoy them.

Just connected the dots that Mears is not in the 13 but on Race Hub.
Better late than never.

I usually try to combine race weekends with other vacations. When I went to Bristol, I drove up from a trip in the Smoky Mountains (where I stayed the night). Might as well maximize my time away from work.

Wasnt the Bristol area the worst of the price gouging ?, or has the Daytona Beach area now took the top honors?

I do something very close in my industry , charging more for certain months vs others, the price for my services are going to be higher for Saturday during the in demand months of March-May then vs the months June-September , while I dont agree with it on the customer side, its just how the business game is played , and it sucks.

Oh, definitely. I've combined Bristol with Biltmore House in Asheville and whitewater rafting. Martinsville usually gets some Greensboro or Raleigh museums tossed in. Every trip includes gardens, historic homes, zoos, and / or bird sanctuaries. I've bird watched right on the track property at Darlington and Bristol.
