Since I didn't see the truck race or the NNS race, I'm having a hard time coming up with one for this week. Not sure if I should give it to Montoya for driving across the track after hitting the wall and collecting Junior or his crew chief for the 4-tire call that put him in the back.

Although he came back with a good finish, I'd go with Kyle for looping it in the first couple laps.

kyle's my choice also. he was the only one involved that had a decent day after getting into hornish on the first lap.

How can anyone not pick Montoya's crew chief for giving away a win with a 4-tire call with less than 20 laps to go?

I give it to Montoya for having 4 tires and still hitting the wall

I see now, when someone gets loose and the car goes around that a bone head award????

aw yes the Kyle haters are in full swing.

Agreed. Going with 4 tires put him in the pack, but he lost it all on his own.

Kyle had 4 fresh tires to when he went around on lap 1.Seems like pretty much the same as JPM.Except kyle took out more cars in his.Either 1 could be the bonehead to me.But I'm sure I'll be called a Kyle hater.

Shrub. In his desire to feed his ego he ran the trucks and NNW not getting the seat time in his cup ride. He wants to race trucks, fine. Or NNW again fine.
But in trying to run the 3 series in one weekend something is going to suffer, like the half dozen or so cars taken out in his 1st lap spin.

Second runner up. Montoya for trying to make something happen that wasn't going too. Then instead of riding the wall comes down in front of the field.

Both prime examples of knuckleheaditis:D

4 tires did not cause Montoya to overdrive the corner with the best car in the field. Bonehead award goes to Montoya, hands down.
For the Kye haters, you may want to check the record books. His name is more prevalent in recent times than any other.

The pressures were still down on Kyles car at that time.....That's when most people lose cars, unless you are Montoya;)

When did Kyle miss ANY Cup practice? He had other driver's practicing the truck and NNW car so that he could practice and qualify the Cup car. In fact, I think ESPN mentioned that the only laps Kyle had in the NNW car before the race were the 2 qualifying laps.

If you are going to bash KB that's fine but you should get your facts straight first.

As far as I can tell, the first lap incident was caused by a change made in the car overnight and Kyle was probably a little too aggressive on the first lap with an unknown setup. Apparently the crew chief loosened the car a little bit more than Kyle expected.

Exactly..... JD Gibbs was on SNR's Trading Paint show today and said that exact same thing when asked. He did not miss any Cup practice. After the last Cup practice he complained that the car was tight and wanted them to loosen it up. Maybe they went a little to far in that direction?

Montoya and Biffles crew chiefs, for allowing winning cars miss winning the 3rd Biggest cup race of the year.

How in the world can any of you pick Kyle as a bonehead this week? Hornish did the same damn thing at the same time but nobody is saying anything about that. Didn't it rain the night before also? No rubber on the track when the green dropped so someone was bouond to spin in the first couple of laps.

Because they all hate Kyle and will say anything to put him down.

No, but 4 tires put him in 8th place with 20 laps to go. That's too many positions to make up in a short amount of time, and at a track where it's difficult to pass.

Didn't bif take 4 tires?

Yeah, Biff's CC made the same call. So I guess it should be a shared Bonehead.

OK, so what caused him to mash into the wall?

Who knows. Maybe he was just driving the car too hard knowing he had to make up a bunch of positions in a short amount of time. Maybe he was upset about the bad call, and pulled a Kyle Busch to take himself out of the race. Maybe he had a right rear tire going down.

Doesn't matter why he crashed. He wasn't going to win the race after that bad pit call. His crew chief even admitted he blew it on that last pit stop. Track position is everything at a track like Indy where it's difficult to pass. When it's that late in the race, you know cars that are farther back are going to take 2 tires to make up the track position.

The 16 did not get into the fence after taking 4 tires, the 42 did because he overdrove the corner and not only took himself out but hammered the 88, too.
Sure, one might say that Brian Pattie made the wrong call on the tires but JPM forgot to lift going into 4 and hammered the wall on his own.

I wasn't talking about Montoya hitting the wall. To me that's irrelivant.

My choice for Bonehead was the #42 crew chief because he made a bad call on pit road that took the dominate car out of contention for the win. It doesn't matter how the #42 car finished the day. It was still a bad call.

It's only a bad call because some didn't come in...if the rest followed it would be a good call.
It's luck of the draw...Montoya had plenty of time to make up that track position, but did something stupid as usual

Are you sure you were watching the same race that I was? Everyone on the lead lap came in on the last stop. The 7 or so cars that came out in front of JPM and Biff all took 2 tires. Biff and JPM took 4.

Indy is not a track that favors handling. If this was Texas, Charlotte, Chicagoland, or any other cookie-cutter 1.5 mile oval, 4 tires would have been a great call with 20 laps to go.

But Indy is very difficult to pass at, and a car that takes 2 tires can easily hold off a car that takes 4 tires. 20 laps to pass 8 cars is not enough time at Indy. Assuming the race stayed green, you've have to pass more than 2 cars a lap to make up that track position. That's a tall order for one-groove Indy. Biffle was only able to make it back to a distant 3rd before the race ended.

That's what I meant 2 vs 4..sorry..

AND I'M TIRED OF HEARING IT'S HARD TO PASS THERE.......IT'S HARD TO PASS ANYWHERE FOR CHRIST SAKE
