Honorable mention goes to this clown.

Even Mike Joy wasn’t buying it lmao. Denny’s such a dope, I feel a segment of the fan base wants to like him as he’s become the grizzled vet now but he pulls dopey antics like this and it makes it all the more funny when he does his usual November choke job.

Denny for doing that dumb Denny crap.......

Against the World? Seriously? And then if you're going to do something that dumb at least get a better banner than something from Dollar store.

Obviously Smith...but this guy should get a few votes. In NASCAR what's the point? I think the teams all know when a faster car is coming and to be waving it constantly for 500 laps makes no sense.

I was thinking the same thing watching the race yesterday. Seems pointless, but so are all the other flags. Just tradition now.

Dope is a good word. He thinks he is a villain, but all he comes off as is an idiot. He's moved from aw shucks Hamlin to thinking he's the against the world Hamlin when he wins after a 10 year losing streak at M'ville lol.

I've been wondering for a while why NASCAR continues with a flag man. Restarts aren't based on when he waves the green, cautions aren't based on when he waves the yellow. Does the last lap start when he waves the white REGARDLESS of when or whether the driver crosses the line?

Replace the flagstand with a couple of 15-foot-square electronic boards to show current status color. Tie the color changes to the same system that triggers the caution lights. Strobe the green when the leader enters the restart zone, and go solid when he's past it. When a car is black flagged, post big ol' honkin' numbers everyone can see.

I think a flagman would be more dependable than all of that and probably a hell of a lot cheaper. It's more ceremonial than anything now days in Nascar. Other series it's different.

Until a piece of debris hits them and they get hurt, or someone sues them for hearing loss, or they slip and hurt themselves climbing up the ladder......

In all cases its cheaper to replace a human

Those are all potential 'What If?' costs. There are the more easily defined existing fixed costs of salary, benefits, transportation, lodging etc. A decent sized board could be hauled from track to track. Adding connections are a one-time cost. Put a spring-loaded ejector for the checkered flag, trigger it remotely, and let the winner catch it. :p

But one of my earlier questions was serious. When exactly does the last lap start, when the flag waves or when the driver crosses the S/F line? If the white flag is waved but a yellow is triggered before the driver crossed the line, are we on the last lap or not? We know the flag is waved before the driver crosses the line; we see it every week.

Since the start of GWC it has always been when the leader crosses the line to take the white flag under racing conditions. If the yellow comes out an inch before (caution lights are turned on) its not the last lap. Doesn't matter if the flagger is actually waving the yellow or white flag.

Lincoln Speedway in PA replaced the flagman with lights. However as the head flagger at a go kart track I do not want to encourage this practice for selfish reasons.

You think that's bad? Remember when they used to line up cars single file and place the lapped cars on the inside? They'd throw the green, then the next time around there would be the flagman waving that flag. Well, your rules placed them there, don't wave that flag at them.

Today it's a courtesy and they still use it in case a driver's radio is out. I've seen some short track series that don't even use it any more.
