Think clint bowyers motor smoked cus he ran it so hard in practice. Seems with this 1 motor rule guys are not pushing there cars really hard in practice and qailifying. Almost like they wait to really let them eat and pull bunches of r,s. any thoughts.

I don't agree with that, the lap times are faster in practice and in particular qualifying. california can be hard on motors mainly because of sustained RPM and the speeds and the length of the race. I think in practice they want to run hard so they have an idea of what they have for the race. alot of times they are doing practice qualifying laps this is often what you see in the first practice on friday to prepare for qualifying later. so they are running as hard as they can there.

Fontana is one of the toughest on motors. Nationwide had quite a few engine failures compared to cup, I think they had four. You may be right about practicing too much, Clint was at the top a lot in practice lap times. I don't agree about qualifying though, that counts. Practice is more about car tuning, tire wear/pressures, fuel consumption etc. They aren't using practice times for qualifying position order this year, so they aren't trying to time it to get the best time to go out and qualify.
