I read someone said maybe Jr hasn't fully recovered and that's why he missed shifts, twice, and blew up. Sounds reasonable but Harvick did the same thing. BTW How the hail did that motor survive??
Vicious hit by JJ. KK, I've never witnessed a double brake failure in the same race on the same lap in the same corner ever before. Should have bought a lottery ticket!
They played Gordon's turn 1 hit from a few years back. Another hard hit.
Are the cars too heavy and going too fast for the current braking systems? Seem to hear a lot about brake problems this season. Hope they find a solution before someone drives faster than their Guardian Angel flies.

Problems with the brakes because they cut the cooling to go faster. Open the ducks and the brakes will be fine. Nascar could make changes to the body that prevents this if you want more interference.

I think Harvick got real lucky

I suspect the transmissions have a tight H-pattern, it might be a new design and Jr and Harvick aren't used to it yet. Harvick used his clutch fast enough to save the engine.

I'm wondering what they are doing to the brakes that make them failure prone, cooling is significant but I think there might be more to it.

Oops my bad, I quickly glanced at your avatar and thought you were @DUN24 lmao. I can't keep up with these Blaney avatars man.

I rescind my traitor remark :D

I'm cycling through all the Ford's this year for my avatar. Thought this historic pic was pretty neat from yesterday and worked out really well with the win.

Does anybody know which brake supplier supplies whom?

AP and Brembo were the two most popular. Not sure if that's still the case.

Gibbs switched to Alcon a couple of years ago because better mousetrap. Suppliers that sit still get replaced.

Big difference between Harvick's missed shift and Jr's. Harvick caught his faster and got off the gas, although it over reved, the period of time was much shorter it was above the red line. For the brakes, no other track is like the tricky triangle with the cars having to haul themselves down from the longest straight in Nascar. The Hendrick cars were trying to get a speed advantage so everything including the brake ducts were taped up as much as possible. Jr said he was out of brakes so they opened up his brake ducts. They couldn't install an automatic trans though but he did have brakes. I imagine a few calls are being made to Hendrick's brake vendor this morning

Tricky triangle my ass! More like "wretched rack."

That is what the fans and drivers call it. But whatever floats your boat.

Actually I think it was a name someone on the Mattioli's payroll came up with a few years ago just like at some point NH (I think) became the "Magic Mile" and Bristol has become "The Last Colosseum" or something similar. I have submitted the name "Curvy Conundrum" to Bruton Smith for the new Roval at Charlotte and I may start referring to Chicagoland as the "Joust in Joliet" and Texas as "The Fight in Fort Worth."

The MRM folks kinda forgot the tricky thing about halfway thru.

They took the monster thing farther into the race last week before they quit usin' it.

The cars have been bullet proof for some time, they run qualifying laps the whole race these days. It looks like the drivers have to learn how to preserve the equipment - that's old school.
