ARCA RE/MAX Series To Make Historic Return to Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Music City Motorplex

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]After a 17-year hiatus, the series, in its 57th consecutive season, is returning to the Music City Motorplex at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville June 20th, 2009 for a 200-lap event. [/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]"Music City Motorplex and the ARCA RE/MAX Series are a great match because they have a lot in common," said track promoter Joe Mattioli III. "Both have incredible histories. The Fairgrounds is the second oldest racing facility in America dating back to its inaugural race in 1904. And the ARCA RE/MAX Series has been around since 1953. We also know that the RE/MAX Series has a long history with the Fairgrounds. We are very excited about the opportunity to bring the ARCA RE/MAX Series back to the Fairgrounds."[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The race event in Nashville will mark the 24th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at the renowned fairgrounds short-track since the inaugural ARCA race there in 1959.[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]"The Nashville market is important to the series, and with the rich tradition and history of the Music City Motorplex facility, it's a great fit for us," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "Working with Joe Mattioli also further establishes our long-term relationship with the Mattioli family dating back to the first ARCA event at Pocono in 1969, so we look forward to growing that partnership along with returning to such a storied venue."[/FONT]

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Music City Motorplex, which predates the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, started out as a mile dirt track in 1904. The track, in its current 5/8ths-mile paved configuration, celebrated its 50th anniversary on July 19th, 2008.[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]"There is just so much historical significance to this track, not only to Nashville, but to the entire country," Mattioli continued. "Four generations of Pettys raced there. The Hamiltons, the Waltrips, the Marlins, the Green's all cut their teeth there. This place has a history of creating championship drivers. Even Marty Robbins used to race here in between his stage performances at the Grand Ole Opry."[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Nelson Stacy won the inaugural 300-lap ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Fairgrounds on June 21st, 1959. Twenty-two more RE/MAX Series events would follow producing winners such as Don White, Harold Smith, Jack Bowsher, Keith Ploughe, Andy Hampton, Red Farmer, Coo Coo Marlin, Ramo Stott, Bruce Gould, Woody Fisher, Moose Myers, Marvin Smith, Bob Schacht and David Green, who, in the Roulo Brothers 39 car, won the last ARCA race there in 1992.
