Kyle Busch Syndrome starting to consume the NASCAR Drivers.

Montoya blows off interview, in trouble?: #42-Juan Pablo Montoya may be in trouble with NASCAR certainly with its PR operations -- after an incident in which he blew off a pre-planned satellite interview with a major California Fox affiliate, Sacramento's KTXL. Montoya and NASCAR both are now on that station's D-list. And Sacramento is, of course, the state capital, where governor Arnold Schwarzenegger holds forth. Schwarzenegger typically attends NASCAR events in that state, and will likely be at Southern California's Auto Club Speedway in a few weeks for the California 500 chase race. Montoya was doing a routine round of Sprint Cup championship chase interviews [Saturday?] in advance for the first race of the chase, but when 5 o'clock rolled around, he took off his mike and walked off the NASCAR set. Much to the chagrin of the KTXL reporters who had been patiently awaiting their NASCAR-scheduled spot in the interview line. See the video of the incident and Jim Crandell's commnetary about it and NASCAR's waning popularity at fox40.com.(MikeMulhern.net)(9-21-2009)

Sounds like there's more to this than meets the eye.

Yeah, JMP can be a jerk sometimes, but to blow-off a pre-race interview? That's unusual. Like Shrub, he's more likely to blow off a post-race interview, especially when he hasn't run well. But pre-race? Especially before the first race of the Chase?

Smells fishy to me.

I wonder if someone said something to him to piss him off, or maybe it could be something as simple as a problem with his kids?

Also, I find it strange that they're making such a big issue out of this. Dropping Schwarzenegger's name? Seriously?

YAWN:rolleyes:

The syndrome overcoming NASCAR Nation is BDS (Busch Derangement Syndrome). It's running rabid on these forums lately.

Trust me, Montoya does not have Kyle Busch Syndrome; his win record is directly reflective of the fact. What he does have is a Napoleon complex and a big mouth.

Come on Bobby, JPM has done incredibly well to make the chase .....He stayed focused and concentrated on the task at hand

You have to consider who wrote the article also, Mike Mulhern isn't the worlds' most dependable journalist.

I really don't think its a big deal. After 9 interviews...and saying the same exact thing 9 times in a row, I wouldn't want to talk anymore either. I would penalize that news caster for pretty much crying over it all!

I really don't know how Mike got this reputation, but when he was writing for our local paper, everything that he reported was true and I found him to be one of the more critical reporters in NASCAR. I think this reputation began with other reporters and carried over to the public. One of my friends used to be a NASCAR writer and when asked about Mike, he was always critical, but when I asked him why, he could never give a good answer. The public needs more reporters like Mike than with the butt kissers that will do anything to keep access to NASCAR.
