BREAKING NEWS: Tri-County Speedway halts operations

doesn't look like its shutting down, just limiting the races. The southern mods have been racing there for a long time.

The good news is that Tri-County is very close to Hickory.

Not like if Manassas were to close and the closest NASCAR sanctioned track would be a three hour drive.

My closest NASCAR sanctioning track is about six miles from me in central Winston Salem. Other than that, Caraway is about an hour away and Hickory and Martinsville are just over an hours drive. Then there is Concord Motor Speedway, South Boston and Motor Mile Speedway. Bristol and Charlotte aren't all that far away either. Oh, I'm sorry that you have to travel so far to see a race. :D

Quite frankly, I'd rather go to a non-NASCAR sanctioned track. Pit passes are generally cheaper, the whole vibe is different. I've got a NASCAR track less than 5 miles from my house, but rarely go. Instead, I travel an hour up the road to the dirt track.

Let's be honest VA, you rarely go to Langley because they kicked you out. ;):p

Nope, to be honest I went once or twice a year before I got the boot, while i'd go 6-8 times a year (or more) up north.

Down there, you have two really really nice tracks to choose from: Langley and Saluda.

Up here, I had two really ****ty tracks to choose from: Potomac and Manassas.

You can't beat Bowman Gray. Ten bucks to get in and every third night of racing the women only pay a buck. Parking is free. You can bring your own food and drink, but no alcohol. You can purchase beer in the beer section and drink it there. Also there is no cost for pit passes there before and after the races. If you have a friend on the inside you can get in and watch from the pits, but that's not a good place to see much. Where can you go for ten bucks and see plenty of racing and never have to purchase anything else at the track?

Virginia Motor Speedway, weekly shows are $10. You can bring your own food, even your own beer. Parking is free. And pit passes are only $20 (the cheapest I know of) and have a great set of grandstands in turn 3.
