Sherman opts to be his own boss

Brent Sherman's first lap around the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit has been a bumpy ride.

But he thinks he knows how to fix his problems behind the wheel: by forming his own team.

Sherman, 31, a St. Paul native living in Chicago, told the Pioneer Press on Wednesday that he has left BAM Racing's Nextel Cup team to form his own team, Sherman Racing.

Sherman's team will spend the rest of the 2006 season on the ARCA RE/MAX Series circuit, with plans to try to qualify for Nextel Cup races July 9 in suburban Chicago and Nov. 12 near Phoenix.

He hopes his new team can run a full Nextel Cup season in 2007.

"We're going to do whatever we have the money to do," Sherman said.

This is another example of a bad hire by a Cup team. When BAM announced he was their new driver, I had not heard much about him. When I checked on what he's done, it was clear he wasn't ready for Cup. I never understood why BAM signed a driver like this, one that's unknown and unproven, instead of a Mike Wallace or someone like that.
 
Yep i beleive that was the reason, he is a no name i never heard of him until late last year. He will most likely fade away and never be heard from again.

Mystery solved :) It became obvious Swanns wanted out of thier deal and the only way to do that was for BAM to have a replacement, VIOLA, Sherman and his Daddy's money and sponsership. I was not aware of that connection until today though but now it definitely makes sense.
 
That's the same thing Petty Enterprises when they brought in Buckshot Jones. He crashed more cars than a Dukes of Hazzard stunt driver. But he had a sponsor and needed a ride. PE had a ride and needed a sponsor. One of these days, these teams will figure out this won't work.
