Brickyard Overnights Down 3 1/2%

Sunday's broadcast of the Brickyard 400 garnered an overnight rating of 5.5, according to Nielsen Media Research as reported by Sports Business Daily. This is down 3 1/2% from last year's 5.7 overnight number. Last year's race got a solid small market bump to finish with a 6.3 final rating. (8/4)

There are so many things that go into ratings it is very hard to quantify their meanings. Things such as weather, other events that happen to fall on the same day, whether an Earnhardt is out front, etc. all tend to have an impact on viewing habits.
