Question was asked about second place finishes in the history of NASCAR. Near as I can tell these are the records.

Most 2nd place finishes season - All Time - David Pearson 18 in 1969

Most second place finishes season - Modern Era - Richard Petty 9 in 1972 and again in 1976.

Career second place finishes:
---------Richard Petty 157
---------David Pearson 89

Active Driver Career second place finishes
---------Mark Martin 44

At least two drivers have 7 seconds in a season in the modern era and a whole bunch have 6.

If Pearson was first overall, Petty was second.

If Petty was first, Pearson was second.

Great battles, or so I've heard. :)

O Brother is a great movie huh HS? I love it.

O Brother was a fabulous film....funny and amazingly well done.

Not at all surprised about Mark Martin....strikes me that "bridesmaid" is all he will ever be.

It's in the attitude!

O Brother is approaching one of my all time favs. The soundtrack alone is reason enough, I keep it in the CD carousel all the time. The sirens scene has me laughin out loud every time I see it, hence the tagline!:D

What seasons and battle Petty and Pearson used to stage. Would like to put toegether their one - two career finishes, but that is a long term project as total finishing orders for some races from the 60's are very hard to come by.

But look at these individual seasons for those two:

Richard Petty - 1967 - 48 races started.
----------------------------27 Wins
-----------------------------7 Second Place
-----------------------------2 Third Place
-----------------------------1 Fourth Place
-----------------------------1 Fifth Place
-----------------------------2 Other Top Tens
----------------------------40 Total top 10's

David Pearson - 1968 - 48 races Started
-------------------------------16 Wins
--------------------------------12 Second Place
-------------------------------4 Third Place
-------------------------------2 Fourth Place
-------------------------------2 Fifth Place
-------------------------------2 Other Top Tens
------------------------------38 Total Top 10's

For those who live only for the "modern era"

Richard Petty - 1975 - 30 Races Started
-----------------------------13 Wins
-----------------------------5 Second Place
-----------------------------3 Third Place
-----------------------------3 Other Top Tens
-----------------------------24 Total Top Tens

David Pearson - 1976 - 22 Races Started
------------------------------10 Wins
--------------------------------3 Second Place
--------------------------------2 Third Place
--------------------------------1 Third Place
--------------------------------2 Other Top Tens
--------------------------------18 Total Top Tens

And of course there was 1973 when Pearson started 18 races and won 11 of them.

Cale had impressive rivaling stats in 1978 and Dale Earnhardt in 1987.

And for those who might wonder those two (Cale and Dale) are likely third and fourth in second place career finishes with Dale at 67 and Cale at 59. Buck Baker ranks next with 56 according to the stats I have so far.

I like when they meet up with the bankrobber...

"Friend...some ah yer foldin money came unstoled"

The Coen's have a deep appreciation for music. Check out The Big Lebowski.

Paul, i really wish i could have seen those battles between Petty and Pearson.......from what ive heard they were freakin awesome.
