The "Cassie" mentioned is a young internet friend that went with the hubby and I.
Friday--- hit the track just about noon. Plenty of time to shop the trailers and walk ourselves to death before q'ing. We were prepared for every kind of weather except heat -- and it was hot on Friday. LOL Junior was about the last car to go out, so we had to wait a long while to see those long legs --- but at last we were rewarded and wore out the field glasses getting a closer look. hehehe Bill threw down his lap early and no one could come close until Bobby. When Bobby took the pole, I thought the stands were coming down. We didn't stay for the IROC race --- neither Cassie nor I were really interested in any driver that was in it. So we headed to the hotel and dinner.
Saturday --- breakfast at IHOP and on to the track. More time to shop and walk. Beautiful, warm sunny day. Had to have the sweatshirt up in my seats, though. It's always cold up there. Saw some of the first practice, then watched Happy Hour. A lot of drivers really weren't very happy. The BGN guys had some really good racing going on in the toward the middle/back of the pack. The second groove started to come in about the time the race was over. The hubby wasn't feeling to well --- I think it was Friday night's supper --- so we hopped in the car and zipped right out.
Sunday --- The hubby didn't go with Cassie and I --- he was still feeling puny. So we grabbed a quick bite of breakfast and drove right on --- parked by 9:30. Walked down to the Speedway Club and found my name on the PSL Wall of Honor -- big deal. LOL In the seats for introductions. Junior had a young lady riding in the truck with him.
She(or maybe Dad/Grandad) had paid for the privilege the night before at the Speedway Children's Charities auction ---- $16,000.00 ! ! !
The racing was about the best I've seen at Texas. I don't know it you saw it on TV, but the second groove was really beginning to work. The extraordinary long(for Texas) green runs really separated the cars and strung the field out.
The finish was absolutely breath-taking. We watched the "slide for life" and the burn-outs and left. In less than 30 minutes we were out and gone from the track.
When I write to Eddie Gossage --- as I do every year --- I'm going to ask him to check into the frequency problems with spotters and crews were having with the bleed-over from the concessions. At times, some crews/drivers/spotters could not hear each other. That could be dangerous.
Monday---- we stayed over in Dallas to see the NASCAR 3D movie. Loved it. That moonshine bit at the beginning was priceless --- not so much because of who the shine runners were, but because of the policeman chasing them. ROTFL
Got in late Monday, totally tired. We had a wonderful time.
Couldn't do much of anything on Tuesday. Storms, lightning and no lights were the order of the day.
