Bristol Information

I was lucky enough to be drawn for tickets for the Bristol race next week.

Any of you "Bristol Veterans" have any tips for a Bristol newcomer?

When does the traffic get bad? How long will it take me to get to Bristol from the Knoxville area?

Tips on parking, etc..

Really excited about going to Bristol, but I need a lot more information to feel comfortable.

Tip 1. Pack your patience. The traffic around the speedway is so far beyond ridiculous it boggles the imagination.

Tip 2. As far as time to Bristol from Knoxville, that will depend on the day you plan to arrive. Roughly, you are travelling about 100 miles on the interstate, and about a 20 to 60 minute trek to the track depending on traffic.

Tip 3. Bring your own food. The track prices are enough to choke a horse, and so is the food.

Tip 4. If you are looking for just a hotel room, not camping at the track, try Greeneville or Morristown TN. Both are about an hour or so from the track, and usually there is plenty of available lodging to be had.

As I think of more, I'll post them.

there ain't much left in greeneville make sure you park in the direction your going when you leave. where are your seats ?

Seats are in the Waltrip Grandstand. I believe they are in section ii, Row 61.

They may be a little bit high, but I am sure not complaining.

Any ideas on what time I should leave from NE Knoxville (to avoid raceday traffic). When I got to the Texas race, if I leave by 7:00am, I avoid traffic. Would I be ok if I depart Knoxville by 6am?

Waltrip Grandstand, up high --- did you ever luck out. :)

If you leave now, you might be able to avoid some traffic. LOL Seriously, the earlier you leave, the better. Also, park as far out as you possibly can. And, the advice about parking in the direction you want to go is good. It's really close quarters up there in the hills.

Wear some comfortable shoes because you will have to walk a long ways even if you get there early.

Yeah, park in somebody's yard (they all sell spaces) and hoof it an extra fifth of a mile or so and you'll not only pay less you'll get out quicker.

North east Knoxville, I assume you mean the John Sevier/Straw Plains area. If I were going from there, I'd take I81 up to exit 7 in Virginia and try to double back. I hear the traffic flows better there than if you take exit 66 (I think it's 66, maybe 69) in Blountville. Blountville's a weird little place anyway.

Sunblock. Don't forget the sunblock. You're gonna be encased in paving and reflective bleachers all day.

As far as the location of your seats, at Bristol the higher up the better. I've been toward the bottom there...the wall gets in your line of sight too easily. Gimme up high any time.

You'll probably be sitting in traffic longer than you'll be sitting during the race.

if you are comming up 81 get off at the tri-citys airport exit theRE will be signs to the race track follow the back roads it is a damn site quicker than the interstate all the way. you should park at the avoca vol. fire dept it will be on the right heading in. it is about a .7th mile walk to the track but trust me when you leave you will get out quick. we always park there. (theY have shuttles to the track if you don't want to walk) when you walk up to 11-e the waltrip grand stands will be to your right. if you leave by 0730 or 0800 that should give you plenty of time to find your seats and check out the place. if you have never been to BMS you are gona be in for a surprise when you see the place. one last thing make sure you have EAR PROTECTION the loudest track there is. HAVE FUN !!!! :bounce:

Oh and by the way, ya might wanna hook up with a drafting buddy to help ya get thru traffic!

We always park across the street from the track at the White Top Road Parking Lot. There's these way cool school buses that deliver you to the track. Free too.

i rode that train like buggy thing at dega.

I am staying at a motel about 25 mi. east of Knoxville. I have never been to Bristol. sounds like murder. :D

We're like 90 miles away in North Carolina. Now that's murder.

anyone got an exter tix, for lappy? :p

i belive im going to the bush race at nashville, if my buddy will make up his mind if he wants to go or not, i am thinking about geting mine and goin my self!

I went to the night race in 2001. We stayed in P' Forge. It was a long drive, but the traffic wasn't bad. We took the BMS exit, and parked in field next to a church. It was a long walk to the track, but we got out quick. The traffic moved better than 'dega and Texas. We got right in and right out.
You will have a blast.

We come down from Virginia from that direction and really didn't have too much of a problem. I-181 past Kingsport, then head up I-81 and exit the freeway in Blountsville. We turned up Exide drive and parked along there instead of trying to get on the Vol. Highway. Of course, for the night race we had an easier time getting in because everyone arrives at all different times of the day.

We sit up in the Kulwicki Terrace right in turn 1. About the only thing we have trouble seeing on the track is right in front of us in the turn...usually can only see the top of the car. But that is for about a milli second.

I have season tix's, so last year I was down for both races, but this year I didn't want to go. I'm going to spilt the tickets with my dad & brother, so they are going to the spring race and I wanted to sell the night tickets since I always go to Michigan the week before and I wanted to get tix's for the Richmond night race in September through Matt's fan club. But my daughter wasn't to thrilled about it and wanted to go back again for the night race...that's how much fun she had.

While I don't have any proprietary information to give you regarding Bristol, I would like to welcome you aboard! Jump right in! Most of us don't bite, but the few that do have had their shots. I know, 'cause it's my job to keep up with them! Anyways, hope you enjoy the forum!

I noticed that you might be an Aggie Fan? Well, we won't hold it against ya (j/k)! There are a few of us who live here in the Great State of Texas, what parts do ya hail from? Glad to have another Texan aboard!

Again, Welcome Aboard! ;)

majestyx,

Thanks for the welcome. I live in North Texas off of I35 about 7 miles south of Texas Motor Speedway. We usually hit the race in town. However, this year are taking off and going to Bristol for the spring race, so we are going to skip Texas. Too much money 2 weeks in a row!

I am a big Aggiefan. Will be posting more later.

We are there from Wednesday evening until the Monday following the race! Big time party! Will toast one for you! Look forward to talking more! ;)
