Bristol TV Ratings slightly down: The TV Cable Ratings for the Shaprie 500 Nextel Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway on ESPN, Saturday night, August 25th was a 3.5 rating with 5,735,000 viewers. Fourth highest for the Cable Ratings, behind The Closer, Preseason NFL and Disney's High School Musical. In 2006, the Bristol race was aired on TNT and drew a cable rating of 3.6. (nielsen.com)

Considering ESPN has more market and is avaliable in many more areas than TNT, that's bad.

I'm not too concerned about TNT's ratings because (this year, they had the most boring races) they've only got 3/4 (or less) the market as ESPN.

If I'm Brian France, I'm getting concerned now.

As to market size I don't know but TNT regularly has a larger share than ESPN. Disney has the largest share with 2.4, followed by TNT at 2.0. ESPN comes in at 18th with a share of 0.9.

When I was In Massachussetts, we didn't have TNT. We had ESPN, so I missed Daytona Wide Open. A LOT of hotels don't carry TNT (and every one I've been to has ESPN), and TNT is right smack in the middle of summer travel season. I think there are a lot more factors than TNT had this many viewers and ESPN had this many.

Also, we don't see the number who watch the races online, or listen to the MRN Radio Stream, or listen to MRN Radio on their local country music station. If I could pick up WFLS on my surround sound sterro system, ESPN's broadcast would be on mute.
