What a stupid idea it was to begin with. Anyone remember Larry Pearson being seriously injured last year? Video Link Nasty freakin hit. I wonder how he's doing today?

Anyhow, they've now replaced it with an attempt to break the track speed record @ Bristol. I'm not so sure that this sounds like a better idea.

From SceneDaily.....

Instead of that race, Bristol will have David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose in a street legal Mustang as well as drivers in a Tony Stewart-owned Sprint car, two Supermodifieds and a world Superbike champion running laps to see how fast they can go around the half-mile oval.

Full article link.

I think a dude covered in honey and pieces of raw salmon and a wild grizzly bear should also be part of the festivities.

for Ragan's Mustang. :(

Thanks for the link. Interesting story. It looks like a long road to recovery.

My son & I were there when that happened and we'll be there again next weekend for the track speed record attempt, that is, if I can get my RV dug out of the snow once again. :(

Bristol Motor Speedway is no place for any legends race. Way too fast.

Anyone remember when ESPN showcased their legend races in the early 90's at ORP? (Used to be IRP.) They used brand spanking new Ferraris on the half-mile track to race and had retired drivers from NASCAR, CART, and open wheel race them. Bobby Allison, Benny Parsons, and I think, Johnny Rutherford were just some of the participants.

Funny as heck when these guys would try to go three wide at ORP and wreck 2 million dollars worth of racecars. Talk about a lonely walk back to the garage.

I remember that. I believe it was called the fastmasters. I thought they were Jaguars but it don't matter, high dollar cars getting all tore up. I don't think it lasted more than 1 year.

It does matter. Fastmasters on ESPN in 1993. They raced Jaguars. Without your memory, I wouldn't have been able to find footage of these races.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide a link because I do not have enough posts.

But here's the site: Fastmasters - IndianaOpenWheel.com

I remember use all talking about this after the wreck last year and figured they wouldnt do that race again. This other deal sounds dumb. But the sprint cars could be cool. Thats about all I can sit through a sprint car show anyway to see the hot laps how fast they go and thats it. Once the racing starts its time to do something else. Would be cool to see a super modified out there like they are planning. Should show some folks some different classes they've never seen before.
