Browns RB William Green at it again

When the Browns drafted William Green out of Boston College they made it a point to stress how good of a guy he was and how even though he was busted for smoking pot twice in college that he had learned from his troubles and he was a much stronger individual because of them. Then again, maybe not...

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns running back William Green pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana possession.

Green was arrested Monday after police received a call from a motorist reporting a possible drunken driver. An officer found a bag of marijuana weighing 3.2 grams in the car, and a breath test indicated Green had a blood-alcohol content of .165, more than twice the state's limit, police said.

Green, who leads Cleveland with 559 yards on 142 carries, was released on bond. He and his attorney did not comment after the arraignment.

If convicted of the DUI charge, Green could be put on probation or face up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail. His license could be suspended for up to three years. The marijuana charge is a misdemeanor and carries a $100 fine.

"Our team policy dictates that we handle all incidents involving our players within the organization on an individual basis," Browns president Carmen Policy said. "William is represented by counsel, and we have been assured that we will be kept advised throughout these proceedings. We will work in conjunction with the National Football League to monitor this matter closely."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello would not comment specifically on Green's case. But Aiello did say that under the league's substance abuse policy, any player breaking alcohol- or drug-related laws is subject to a fine and suspension.

A patrolman observed Green's car weaving and being driven on a flat front tire, according to police. A breath test indicated Green had a blood-alcohol content of .165, more than twice the state's limit, police said.

Green, in his second NFL season, missed Cleveland's game last Sunday against the New England Patriots with a separated right shoulder. It would have been a homecoming of sorts for Green, who starred at Boston College before turning pro after his junior season.

While at BC, Green was twice suspended from the team for marijuana use.

The Browns made him the 16th overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft.

Following a slow start as a rookie, Green ran for 887 yards -- 726 in his final seven games -- as the Browns won seven of their last 10 games to earn a playoff spot.

The Browns have a bye week. After practicing Wednesday, Cleveland's players have four days off and do not have to report back until Monday.

Doh! Glad I don't have him in FFL! (not sure even if he is their #1 RB....that's how much I follow football)

So he's been in the NFL 2 years. Poor kid is wasting his football career by doing all this to himself.

On one hand I do feel kind of bad for the kid. Obviously he has some issues.

I guess what bothers me is that he has been counseled over and over again. He is getting every type of help he could imagine all because he is a very talented athlete. Yet he is choosing to waste what millions of other kids could only dream of. :(

Not that this is any of your business, but because I don't consider myself a fan of the sport anymore & don't follow it closely like I used to, doesn't mean I'm a complete ignoramus about football or unlike yourself, life in general. Have a nice day! :)

No wonder you sound like such a moron when talking about it. Most Packer fans I know are sensible but maybe that's because they pay attention.

Fortunately for you, I wasn't in the mood to play with you last night. Generally, you and most of your comments bore me. If I had choose to go toe-to-toe with you last night, I most likely would have made you whine & cry like the little girl that you are...just like last time.

BTW...when do we get the honor of you changing your user name? Hey, I've got a suggestion. How about Park(no ride)Fan?

Best Regards,

Maybe I should change it to Kenseth fan. Then I can become a Packer fan when they make the Super Bowl again, but when they're a non contender become a non fan of the NFL. You would know about little girls considering your mommy comment sounded like something that would come from one. :cuckoo:

I've been going to Packer games since before your mommy has been wiping your snotty nose. I've sat through the crappy years of the late 70's & 80's. Don't you accuse me of being a fair weathered fan.

I also know about acting like a little girl. I have two daughters & you're acting just like them!

Glass houses my boy...glass houses. Just like last time, your comebacks were both un-witty & senseless. And just like last time, I'll have to let you get the last word, otherwise the senseless posts by you will go on forever.

So make your next utterly senseless post and I'll be done with it.

Even little girls can spit out nonsense for only so long, even if it is to help their dad look like an idiot. I applaud you for deciding to give them a break.

Personally, I'm tired of the chit being handed out by both of you. If you want to trade insults and comments, do it privately.

Getting back to the beginning about the player being busted for DUI and possession --- I hope they lock him up --- and kick him out of football. There's no place for that kind of behavior. The team that drafted him, knowing his prediliction for pot, should have their collective heads examined.

Thanks for the redirection TRL. Check out how the Browns are responding to his arrest.....................................................................

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland running back William Green was suspended for one game by the Browns following his arrest last week on charges of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

Green will sit out Sunday's game at Kansas City, coach Butch Davis announced after Monday's practice.

"It's a disappointing situation," Davis said.

Green, the Browns' leading rusher, was arrested last Monday evening -- just a few hours after leaving the team's training facility -- by Westlake, Ohio, police who pulled him over for driving erratically in his sports utility vehicle.

Green, 23, failed a field sobriety test and a breath test, which showed he had a blood alcohol level of .165 -- more than twice Ohio's legal limit of .08.

Police said they found a a bag of marijuana weighing 3.2 grams in Green's SUV, which he was driving with a flat tire.

Green, who was twice suspended for marijuana use while at Boston College, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Green's arrest came one day after the second-year player missed Cleveland's Oct. 26 loss at New England with a separated shoulder.

He was not available to reporters before or after practice.

Davis said he has not had any contact with the NFL about further disciplinary action against Green, the Browns' first-round draft pick in 2002.

Green's suspension will put even more pressure on the Browns' struggling offense already ravaged this season by injuries and plagued by inconsistency.

Davis said Kelly Holcomb will start at quarterback and Kevin Johnson, the club's leading receiver, is being benched in favor of Andre' Davis.

James Jackson is expected to start for Green, with Jamel White his backup. The Browns also are likely to activate rookie Lee Suggs, who has been on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Davis' punishment of Green, the Browns' first-round draft pick in 2002, is consistent with the disciplinary action he took against other players who have been arrested.

In 2001, defensive tackle Gerard Warren, fullback Mike Sellers and cornerback Lamar Chapman each received one-game suspensions following their arrests in separate incidents.

Warren, Cleveland's first-round pick (No. 3 overall) in 2001, is the only one of the three still with the team.

If convicted of DUI, Green could be put on probation or face up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail. The marijuana charge is a misdemeanor and carries a $100 fine.

Police were tipped off to Green's reckless driving by a cell phone call from a motorist.
