Bruton Smith to buy Rockingham?

The news from Texas is more talk that the France family may be proposing a sale of North Carolina Speedway to Bruton Smith, with the tacit understanding that Smith would move that Cup tour date to Texas Motor Speedway in 2005, possibly for a September or October race weekend. In turn the Francis Ferko anti-trust case against NASCAR over that second Cup date would be quietly dropped.

Sources close to the situation said the movement in that direction began last August after Bill France Jr.'s deposition in the case. Shortly after that deposition, Brian France was given the reins of the family business. It's unclear when that deposition might be made public

Bruton Smith is steadily climbing to the top of the Racing world and may vey well take the France's spot at the top of Nascar one day.

Well we all know that Big Bruton Smith has been pulling for that second race date, here in Big Tejas for a long time now.
Looks like we may get that second race after all!

I read this the other day and hope it's true. It sure would be nice to have another race close by.

i would bet money he will move the ONLY race at the rock to TX if he buys it. NaSTYCAR has been sittin the Rock up for failure for years

what a shame another great track lost

I'm not quite sure where this "News from Texas" is coming from. I live here in TEXAS, and it ain't coming from anywhere local here! This is an unsubstantiated RUMOR!!! Until I see something from ISC or SMI regarding this, it blows just like the wind. I would LOVE to have another race at Texas, but not, I repeat, NOT at the expense of a track like Rockingham.

Maj, I had a talk with someone this past weekend, a source that I would rather not identify.

All I can say is that there is good chance that the 2nd race in Texas is going to happen in 2005.

From what I am hearing, the whole schedule is going to undergo a major reshuffle for 2005. And look for the all-star race to leave Charlotte after this year.

Nascar has already screwed up a bunch of things the last 3-4 years. So why not just go hog wild. :(

That is fine. But is this 2nd race, from your source, going to be at the expense of Rockingham???

Maj, that wasn't discussed but you know that they have to get a date somewhere so the Rock is a likely source.

But I don't want to say that it is because I just don't know.
