Buddy Baker runs 200mph at Daytona, Rusty's son tests: Despite having a week off from NEXTEL Cup competition, where he currently sits 4th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings, #2-Rusty Wallace was as busy as ever Monday, as his RWI Racing Busch Series operation completed tests at both Daytona International Speedway and Kentucky Speedway on the same day. In Daytona, racing legend Buddy Baker was behind the wheel of the #64 Miller High Life Dodge Charger, completing testing in conjunction with Racing Radios. Similar to the radio test Wallace completed at Talladega last year, in which he hit nearly 230 MPH, Baker wheeled the RWI Racing machine to an average lap speed of an even 200 MPH around Daytona's high banks. The ever-jubilant Baker was nothing short of thrilled at the opportunity stating, "That was a lot of fun, I have to tell you. Going that fast around here really brought back some memories, that's for sure. Blake Bainbridge and his guys really put together some first-class equipment and I'm really excited to have had the opportunity to do this."
On the other front, Wallace was present for his son Stephen's first speedway test, conducted at Kentucky Speedway. Stephen Wallace, the 2004 Snowball Derby Champion, wheeled a Penske Racing-prepared Dodge around the 1.5 mile oval in preparation for his first speedway start, the August 19th ARCA RE-MAX Series event at Michigan Speedway. Rusty's crew chief Larry Carter and the entire #2 Miller Lite team will handle Stephen's ARCA car. The test was manned by members of the RWI Racing Busch Series team, as well as representatives from Penske-Jasper Engines. To begin the test, the elder Wallace jumped behind the wheel of the #77 Kodak Dodge from Travis Kvapil's stable and completed a baseline lap of 32.65 seconds [165.390mph]. After some tweaking on the car's chassis set-up, it was Stephen's turn at the controls. By the end of his second outing, the younger Wallace had logged a best lap of 32.83 seconds [164.484mph], barely missing the time set by his father.(Rusty Wallace Inc. PR)
AND ........And there was Wallace squelching any expectations of seeing his son, fledgling racer Steven, in the seat of the struggling #77 Penske Dodge any time soon. "No, no, none of that," Wallace said. "Roger (Penske) gave Steven that opportunity to start testing him, like a little driver development stuff, then after he does that Dodge has paid for some races for Steven. He's going to run Chicago in a Dodge development car and we just want to give him all the seat we possibly can. It's all about the seat time. Once I get confident with him, I'll put him in my Busch car for some races, too."(Florida Today)(7-27-2005)

I absolutely adore Buddy Baker. I've met him several times at parties sponsored by my favorite tour group. He is a delight at telling stories----particularly sitting at the bar afterward downing beers. :beerbang:

If you ever get the chance, get him to tell the story of how he split his pants at the Talladega Hall of Fame. ROTFL

I remember on the old TNN days whenever Buddy saw a close call on the track he would say : eeeeyowwww!!!!!!!!

Buddy Baker has always had a relationship with Rusty and Penske Motorsports. Baker is Newman's private coach as well as Newman's spotter. In turn, he gets to drive anything he wants.
Pretty cool, huh?

yeah
i dont really rember a lot about buddy baker but my dad taped a race (it was like in the 70's) and i watched it and i rember him saying that
