The blockbuster Miami/Oklahoma NBA game on basic-tier TNT and the blockbuster Duke/UNC game on basic-tier ESPN beat out the Budweiser Duels on second-tier FS1.

FOX Sports Live beat out SportsCenter, 2.2/0.6 vs. 1.0/0.5 but that's with a caveat, 9:55-10:15 (which is recorded as "FOX Sports Live") was NASCAR post-race coverage.

Conclusion: Weeknight racing was a success -- again.

Not surprised.

I figured the NBA game would record huge ratings.

Duke/UNC game was a blockbuster event in NASCAR's prime market. NASCAR ratings would've probably been 50% higher if not for that game. Factor in that the race was on an obscure cable network. These ratings would've been higher if the race was on ESPN or TNT but should've been lower than what they were.

Good

It was a great move. Most years the Duels didn't even get 1.5 million viewers in the daytime. A lot better for fans who want to attend, too.

I watched the races then switched over to catch the only important part of the UNC- Puke game.... the end. We got our priorities in order at my house.. :XXROFL:

The two best teams in the league in a preview of a very possible, if not likely, NBA Finals matchup.

True but there are more than just 1 contender in the West. Its a toss up between Thunder and the Spurs.

"True but" ... it was still a blockbuster game and it was on a basic-tier channel that 97% of Americans have and know of while NASCAR was on a channel that's second and third tier on most cable providers.

Second tier? Seriously?

Fox is everywhere. You cant go a single commercial break without some sort of fox Sport advertisements somewhere.

You're arguing two different things here. That game still got better ratings than the racing last night according to that article you posted.

Your main point was that Fox Sport 1 beat out Sportcenter because of the overlapping post race coverage that gave them the slight edge.

I've looked at cable options. Every single provider I've looked at (including a few which unfortunately aren't available where I'm moving), FOX Sports 1 was on a second or third tier package whereas TNT, ESPN and ESPN2 were on the basic package. It costs $10-$15 more a month for FOX Sports 1. And they still had a huge ratings night in spite of being up directly against a blockbuster NBA game and a blockbuster ACC game in NASCAR's prime market.

Night racing's a success.
