BULLETIN: Penske-Saturn deal falls flat; GM shuts down Saturn. 13,000 jobs slashed.

Yeah, they had a thing about it on the news.

They made a good point: GM put a huge effort into launching the brand, and just slowly let it die without investing more money into it. It's been a long time coming.

Sorry Saturn employees. :(

Do GM a favor, and put them out of their misery. Go work for a real car company like Toyota.

Oh yeah!

Mr Toyota is cheering Obama on! Has anyone but me thought about how much money the non-union car companys stand to make from the manner in which Obama has "saved" the big two car companys?
Betsy:rolleyes:

From what i read the 13,000 jobs will not be lost. The two plants that make current Saturn cars are going to re-fitted to make other brands, as of right now the jobs are supposed to stay.

That really sucks for those of us who are driving Saturns. Parts will be even harder to get now and they will be harder to get serviced too. Not to mention, trying to resell them.

My son is driving his second Saturn. Nice car, dependable and great gas mileage. In 5+ years of driving Saturns his only unexpected repair was a alternator. I don't count tires, brakes etc because no matter what you drive you have to replace those items.

Saturn has lost money since day 1 for GM. So, to see it go is not a bad business move. Penske was trying to purchase it for the dealer network which is one of the best in the nation to hawk Chinese made cars. The Chinese cars can't seem to pass any of the safety test given to them and retooling was going to take too long. Gm was committed to building the current Saturns until 2012, but Penske couldn't line up production after that. Saturn parts will now be available at all GM dealers, so finding parts won't be too hard. It just sucks for the resale values (ask me I own a Pontiac.)
