Electric deep fat fryers for turkey, thought I saw them in a late night TV ad and said, "Naw, nobody is is stupid enough to have a few gallons of oil @ 350 degrees in their kitchen". I was wrong...

I've never had one so I can't judge if they're any better or not. IMHO the risk isn't worth the reward.
 
Just finished getting my gas deep fryer ready for tomorrows 17 pound bird. We always do it outside on the concrete patio. It takes about a half hour to heat up, and about an hour to cook. It tastes awesome.
