Burns will move to Subaru

Richard Burns has revealed that, for him, the main reason for his move from Peugeot to Subaru was to have greater involvement in car development.

The decision about his future was, says Burns, a mutual one between him and Peugeot, reached shortly after he had tested the new 307 just before Rally Deutschland.

"It was based on a couple of things," Burns told wrc.com. "Not so much the feeling of the car, but the feeling that I got from the team. I think I can help develop a car quite well, and I just had a bit of a feeling that I wouldn't be allowed to."

He said the decision wasn't all his own. "I also don't want to say that it's like a total decision on either my side or Peugeot's," he continued." It was more like a mutual 'Is this going to work? Probably not.' Once I had that answer in my head then I knew I could look for something that was going to work."

The path led back to Subaru and Prodrive and the way the team Burns left in 2001 works.

"I think I can give quite a lot of input and quite useful input. I've never once claimed to be very technically knowledgeable about how to solve things, but I do think I can feel how a car can improve and I think Prodrive are a lot more interested in listening to that and putting it to good use."
