Busch, McMurray released from '06 contracts to join new teams at 4:23AM/11/01/05
The Wire
Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray have been released from their contract obligations for 2006 and will move on to Penske Racing and Roush Racing respectively, according to a broadcast report.

Roush Racing has released defending Nextel Cup champion Busch from his contract which would allow him to take over retiring Rusty Wallace's No. 2 ride at Penske Racing South next year, according to ESPN's Mike Massaro. In July, Busch announced that he had signed with Penske for the 2007 season and beyond, and he requested his release from Roush Racing.

According to the report, 2003 Cup rookie of the year McMurray has been released from his contract with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates which would allow him to take over the ride that Busch is vacating at Roush Racing with primary sponsor Crown Royal. Bobby Labonte and Ricky Rudd have been rumored to take over McMurray's current ride, the No. 42, but the report doesn't account for that ride.

Well, thank God I don't have to worry about that anymore. Isn't it kinda strange that all this came about after Mark Martin agreed to come back for one more year, after all Jamie originally was suppose to drive the 6 wasn't he? This whole "silly season" is confusing!

Per jayski

Jamie McMurray has not been released from his 2006 contract commitments at this time.(Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates PR)(11-1-2005)

don't believe it if it doesn't come from the PR people or NASCAR.com, jayski hasn't been on the mark recently...he'll print anything...(even the lame NASCAR.com writers have been making fun of it, read Power Rankings entry for Brian Vickers this week)

But today is 11-2-2005 Eagle

That's true, but the point being the Ganassi release came after the release at the beginning of this thread and there have been no other releases to contrdict that one. YET!!! :)

Unfortunatly I think Jayski is on a hard downward spiril. There was a time when it was a great place to go and his percentage of getting it right was very good. Of course his percentages of getting it right now is still good, but that is only because he posts a rumor for every possibility of a situation, that way he's bound to get a few.

NASCAR.com frustrates me. It is always behind. As for Jayski, I think he has let the inmates take over the asylum. Apparently every rumor is fair game to publish. I usually just listen to the PR people.

You guys seem to forget just what jayski's site is. Look at the top and read what it says. He takes all the news that he can find and prints it. While he's got a bunch of insiders who give him tips, he will see what he can find with those tips. I have not read anything that he himself has written on any of these rumors. Maybe you guys have been reading a different site than I have. If so, please, let me know where that is.

Seems that you guys like to kill the messenger instead of the real source.

While most of what you say may be true Buck, do you not agree that a couple years ago he must've done a little checking on rumors before he posted them. It doesn't seem he had a dozen different rumors for each driver and many he posted worked out.

If his site had always been wild butt guessing he wouldn't have become so popular. Heck people on on forums make wild guesses and predictions lately that have more credibility that Jayski's does now.

I agree ...there is a lot of crap on Jayskis now, seems he has had his 15 minutes of fame and burned out.

Eagle, yes, totally agree with you on what you just said about a couple of years ago. Here's the problem with jayski, he's become too big, period. Now it seems that what he says has to have some proof or he should be out of business. Here's a young man who started a website about what he cared about and that was listing all the silly season rumors that he heard about. It caught on and continued to grow until he eventually got sponsored by Ford and now ESPN. In the beginning, he put a lot of his own effort into his site, but these days, it's so big that he can only post what others are saying. Sure, every now and then, he posts something about what he's heard and this one is one of those times, but to defend him, he has credited all of his sources at the end.

Listen, I know of where this man has come from. I don't know how many of this forum are so new to the sport that they were able to log onto a website in the beginning and find out what's going on in the sport. But there are plenty of people who have struggled to find news about NASCAR some years ago and jayski was one of the principle sites that helped them find just that. When I was living in Iowa many years ago, my only link to NASCAR was the magazine Grand National Scene, which changed it's name to Winston Cup Scene, and what is now called...I don't know, but you know what publication I'm talking about. I finally found a few friends who lived down in the south who could give me the skinny on many subjects daily, and I actually thought about subscribing to the Charlotte Observer in those days. Well, things have change quite a bit now days and for many years now, I have been well overloaded with news from and about NASCAR. Still, thought it isn't daily, I read jayski's site.

As you know, most of what he says will show up here anyway if it has any kind of controversy. I will never say that jayski is totally correct, nor will I say that my local journalist, many of whom hate him here on R/F but still love to cite him, never goes wrong, but if it's related to NASCAR or my local racing scene, I'm sure to read about it. I believe that you, Eagle, live out in the California area and while I don't know how much the local press handles NASCAR, but I think it's probably a bit more than it did ten/fifteen years ago. Maybe only slightly, but one thing is for sure, you have the ability to know everything that I, living here in the middle of NASCAR shops country, know. Thanks to the likes of jayski and others, not to mention the ever commercial site NASCAR.com.

Oh jeez, now I've forgotten what I've been talking about so I'll close for now. :) Sorry for the rant.

Latest on Busch-McMurray deal: Expect to see #97-Kurt Busch and #42-Jamie McMurray be released from their respective contracts with Jack Roush and Chip Ganassi in short order. That’s the word from Roush, who said Friday he figures the deal to send McMurray to Roush’s #97 and Busch to Roger Penske’s #2 Dodge to be completed very soon. “I think that if Jamie and Kurt are going to be mutually released — and I would put it in that order — then I think it’s very close to the time that’s going to happen,” Roush said. None of the remaining Silly Season dominos, most notably who will replace McMurray in Ganassi’s #42 Dodge next season, were resolved on Friday, but could be before the weekend is out.(Speed Channel)
AND Jack Roush said yesterday afternoon that an agreement still hadn't been reached in the three-way negotiations to move Jamie McMurray to Roush Racing and Kurt Busch to Penske in 2006. The deal, which also would send an unnamed driver to Chip Ganassi Racing to replace McMurray, has been in the works for weeks and was reported done by ESPN on Monday.(Richmond Times Dispatch)
AND II Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray still don't know if they will be driving for new teams next year. The anticipated swap of drivers involving three teams isn't done. If a deal is done, the changes are these: Busch will leave Roush Racing and drive the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge next season, replacing Rusty Wallace. McMurray will replace Busch for Jack Roush. And someone – possibly Bobby Labonte or Ricky Rudd – will replace McMurray in the #42 Havoline Dodge. "Ultimately it's Jack's decision if we want to separate and move on," Busch said. "If we can work out all the details, great." Jack Roush said he isn't sure everything will get resolved. "I don't have a drop-dead date," he said. "Geoff Smith [team president] is handling those negotiations, and he said it needs to be done quickly." Roush was asked if he and Busch had spoken recently. "I haven't had a conversation with Kurt of any consequence since he told me he wanted to be released from his contract for 2006. I'm immune to frustration when it comes to Kurt Busch."(Dallas Morning News)....yikes!(11-5-2005)

:idunno: I wish they would just hurry up a decide what the heck they are going to do. All these questions are driving me crazy

Sounds like Roush wants kurt outta there. Kurt has done a great job of disrespecting the man who put him where he is today, even though he doesn't seem to have done this publicly, I have read about things said over the radio. I believe it was posted here, by some people who were at one particular race with scanners and couldn't believe what they were hearing.
