I think the number of cup drivers should be limited to 5. If a cup team wants to run Busch, they should hire a driver just for that purpose. Just my .02.
I'm not saying to limit the number of Cup drivers per Busch race, but perhaps to limit how many Busch races a year a Cup driver can be eligible to run. Five might be a good limit per year.
Then again, I started watching these Busch races with regularity this year because so many Cup regulars were featured. And who's to say (besides the Cup owners) where drivers should and should not be allowed to race? Everyone wants to make a little extra money, like Jeff Burton for his "college fund".
I guess I don't know where I stand on this issue after all.
I say any WC driver inside the top 20 in points should only be allowed 5 BGN races a season. Outside the top 20, no limit.
I can see both sides ---- BGN regulars get more experience running against more experienced teams/drivers. But, underfunded BGN teams haven't a hope of competing against a heavily funded Cup driver just cherry-picking.
BGN regulars don't get much more experience running the with the Cup guys when they are being lapped by them.
Cup drivers running in the busch series has always helped bring attention to the sport, but them dominating the entire race doesn't leave much to watch.
Jeff Burton.....14th in Cup points,17 Cup wins
Waltrip..........15th.........................2
Nemechek.....35th.........................2
Spencer........27th.........................2
Green............17th.........................0
Wallace.........41st.........................0
Yea, guess they might as well race Busch cause except for Jeff they sure ain't gettting anywhere against the big boys.
That's partially why he wants to run in Busch. Shows people he still has the ability to win, even though his season is in a slump. Plus helps give him practice on the track before he gets in the Cup car, which helps him in the Cup race.
