UPS renews with NASCAR; Moves to associate sponsor with Edwards: UPS and NASCAR have signed a multi-year agreement for UPS to remain the sport's official logistics partner, providing critical pick-up and delivery services for race teams, vendors and suppliers at every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event throughout the season. In addition to its official partnership, UPS will continue its relationship with Roush Fenway Racing as a full-season associate sponsor of the #99 Ford, driven by Carl Edwards. The decision to continue with NASCAR in an official capacity for a 13th season and Roush Fenway Racing as a sponsor for a fourth season was driven by the positive growth UPS has enjoyed through its direct involvement in the sport. UPS also will continue its successful customer and employee hospitality activations at select events throughout the year in addition to serving as primary sponsor on the #99 Ford at Kentucky Speedway.(UPS)(10-27-2011)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- UPS is ending its primary sponsorship of David Ragan and will become an associate sponsor for Carl Edwards.

UPS also says it will be Edwards' primary sponsor for the Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky.

The shift leaves Roush Fenway Racing in search of two primary sponsors for its 2012 Sprint Cup program. The team has not yet announced sponsorship for championship contender Matt Kenseth.

The team has announced sponsorship for Greg Biffle, and is steadily putting together its funding package for Sprint Cup Series points leader Edwards.

UPS says it will remain an official sponsor of NASCAR for a 13th season, and continue its hospitality program at select events.

I think this spells the end for David's Rousch career.

It may end his carrer and then again we might just have another S&P team.

Wasn't it Jack who made all of the noise about NASCAR's four-car-per-team limit? Now it looks like he may well be down to a 3-car effort.
Interesting - but it sucks for David and his crew.

The economy has a lot to do with that. No way Roush or anyone else could see this coming when the team limit came into play. But of the big teams, Roush seems to have the most trouble holding onto sponsors.

I thought they where going to announce a sponsorship package on the 17 car sometime soon?

David Ragan. 6 years, 178 starts. 1 win, 12 T5's and 30 top 10's.

The reasons seem very obvious to me. Jack probably has someone lined up for Matt and figures he'll get more by waiting until after this season.

If sponsorship was based on performance alone...well, there'd be a few with nothing but their autograph and a number on the cars.

Are you suggesting David has something else to offer a sponsor? Huge fanbase? Charismatic personality? Dashing good looks? Dave was sponsored by UPS, not some company willing to spend just 4 or 5 million for someone willing to ride around the track with their logo on the car.

Guys like Logano and Dave don't realize just how lucky they are. I think they are about to find out.

David slid into the UPS thing because of Dale Jarrett. I find it hard to believe that UPS stayed with David this long.

Same here. The guy hardly shows any signs of life, in or out of the car. He hasn't tried to build a fanbase either.

he has signed at every cup race i have been to since he has been running in cup. At martinsville one time he even did 2 signings on the same day. There are plenty of drivers that never sign at their trailers. Doing the autograph sessions does help build a fan base, even if its just to a small extent.

David Who?

If I'm Roush I expect my drivers to win, they have great cars and crew.

If I'm a sponsor of a Roush team I expect the driver to win. Otherwise they get VERY little media coverage. Or at least run in the top 5 a lot. 12 top fives in 178 starts means Jack should have canned him at least two years ago. I bet 50% of the ARCA drivers could get more than 12 top fives in 178 Cup starts if they had a top-tier car (like Rousch).

Yes, but that is apples to oranges. UPS is one of the biggest companies in the world. Some of the lower drivers will take Brenda's Burger Shack as a sponsor. Based on Ragan's record, he should be estatic if Brenda came on as a sponsor (don't Google it people, I made up the name Brenda's Burger Shack as an example).

Well whatever the case I hope it works out for Jack & his team, if he indeed doe's end up having to release david then he needs to move the #6 onto Edwards car since that's the flagship team...

And if you're Hendrick or Childress?

I'm not suggesting anything. You posted his stats and that the reason seemed very clear to you. My point is that I don't believe it's Ragan's stats alone that kept Roush from securing sponsorship...which you appear to agree with in the above post.:)

carl made his name with the #99. no reason to go switching numbers. all jack has to do is find a better driver for the #6. :)

Yeah, my confusion.

I don't know about you guys, but I can imagine Mark Martin going back to 6 and Valvoline switching over to it. Oh nostalgia please let this happen. Please, please!!!!!

That would be sweet! But the best-case for Mark is the part-time / mentoring ride in the Go Daddy car for Stewart-Hass, with Miss Thang as his pupil. Hell, they wouldn't even have to move the seat!

As for the 6... Dog only knows.

Same thing. They expect their drivers to win too. Some do, some don't. But this thread is about Ragan, and he hasn't done squat.

Thanks for the reminder...of a couple of things I had clearly forgotten.
