CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 6, 2008) – Hall of Fame Racing officials announced Wednesday that NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brad Coleman, who has been under contract as a test driver for Hall of Fame Racing since November 2007, will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut by piloting the No. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry in the Aug. 17 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Coleman will replace J.J. Yeley who has been released by the team.

Road racing veteran P.J. Jones will drive the No. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota in the Sprint Cup race this weekend at the Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International road course.

“J.J. is a talented race car driver and a great person and this was a difficult decision to make,” said Tom Garfinkel, co-owner of Hall of Fame Racing. “We all share responsibility that our performance hasn’t been what it needs to be, but we concluded it was time to make a change. This is a performance-based industry and we need to perform better. We’re confident J.J. will be successful in this sport in whatever his next challenge is.”

Did anyone really expect this team to be anything more than a R&D car for JGR??

Wasn't Coleman with JGR in NNS the last few years before this year?

Yes. Coleman went to the 27 NWS team.

Coleman finished 2nd at the Kentucky Speedway last year to first-time winner Steven Leight (where's he at these days?)

Isn't it amazing how guys who run consistent top-15's in Natonwide (because the top 10 are usually swept by Cup drivers:rolleyes:) can't get rides for Nationwide or Cup because the Nationwide teams want Cup drivers?

We're gonna have a serious problem a few years from now finding drivers to race in NSCS if NASCAR doesn't restrict Cup drivers from running in Nationwide.

I disagree. They'll always be able to find drivers. Now if you statement were to find drivers ready to step into the big leagues that might be a different story. But, there's probably some of those at the local tracks waiting to be discovered. All we need are more Roush Gong Shows...

Yeley has been a big disappointment. I guess I bought into the hype that he would be the next great thing. But he sure could wheel a sprint and a midget.

i dont really see brad doing any better in the 96 he has been terrible in the nationwide series this year. to bad for yeley but i would like to see yeley try and go back the the irl. i just think nascar wasnt for him (much like many other former openwheel drivers in nascar)

IMHO that team made a big mistake in letting Raines go. He did as well as anyone could in a single car effort.

He raced the #70 Haas car last weekend and got its first top 20 of the year.
