C4C elimination process?

that article was COMPLETELY REDICULOUS!!!!

obviously she did not think about what her playoff system would do to the sport.

first off, she says that drivers need to be eliminated. well they are, mathematically.

also, if you have eliminations. how would it be? by a bracket? would just the bracket drivers be in the race? would it be head to head racing? or would you take the top so many drivers and they move on? either way, say you race strong all year long to get to the last ten races, then get eliminated cuz another driver wrecked you. nascar is already worried about that with todays championship setup.

then she says
You've got to eliminate people. They're not eliminating anybody. They're keeping the dead people in the game. 'We beat you, but hey, come back next week. We're going to let you play again.'
does this mean if your not still in the championship you dont show up to race? UH, I BET THE SPONSORS WOULD LOVE THAT. the following year there would be maybe 15 cars in the cup series racing.

sports like baseball, hockey, basketball play there playoffs in series' so that one mistake doesnt cost a team an awsome season. football doesnt, but that because it isnt feisable. the drivers, owners, and sponsors would not want to dump all that money into a program to be eliminated by one bad race after leading the field for the previous 26 races.

i dont really like the C4C compared to the old championship system. but, its not that bad and it does make for more teams being in it at the end of the year. i would like to see a few modifications to the C4C that would reward the drivers that did good all season long a little more than 5 pts. and also, some changes that would make it so a driver doesnt get hurt so bad in the chase if they have just one bad race. BUT A PLAYOFF SYSTEM ( AT LEAST ONE THAT THIS LADY IS SUGGESTING ) IS OBSURD!!!

oh, i looked at the artilcle again and noticed that the playoffs were petty's idea. i thought he had more brains than that.

the Chase is working. In years past, maybe two or three drivers would receive most of the attention, but the Chase has moved the spotlight onto 10. Still, with 10 teams in the Chase but 43 teams in the field, the number of players involved in the sport dilutes the overall enthusiasm.

there might have been 10 in the spotlight during the first race of the C4C but you cannot say that now. hell, there were drivers that didnt have a chance to come back after the second C4C race. sure they might not have been that many points down, but it is hard to make up just a few points if you have to pass 9 other drivers.

i dont believe having 43 drivers in the field dilutes the enthusiasm. in fact, it creates more. if you take peoples favorited drivers out of the field (even if they are not racing for the championship anymore) then those fans may not tune in or go to the races.

other sports have playoffs. but in baseball you dont see 43 teams on the same field at the same time.

Lee Spencer. :cuckoo:

Somebody's been watching too much Survivor.

The very first sentence of the article should tell you all you need know about the reporter.

As the remaining innings dwindled during Game 7 of the National League Championship Series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, I kept wondering if NASCAR ever could achieve this fever pitch among its fans.
The Red Sox won in four straight games, not seven.

Whizzer, NLCS was Cards vs 'Stros...cards in 7.

Having 43 drivers on the track at one time dilutes the enthusiasm. Hmmmm. So is that the reason one Sunday afternoon race at Bristol draws 165 thousand. Then a Sunday Afternoon football game draws less than 100 thousand. I dout there was 50 thousand at the Baseball game last night.

Well, gee, folks, y'all forgetting about those NEW and MORE IMPORTANT fans---the ones that tune in on TV and seem to be the ones NASCAR is all in a tizzy over to get on a ratings list.

The go to the race fan gets zip at the new track here in Kansas---cannot take in a bottle of water---lines are soooo long you miss half the race getting a drink or using the facility---I went and decided not to do that again!

Seems to me us old time dyed in the wool come rain or shine fans are less important---least here anyway! :(

I'll watch on TV---least I can see the race!

sure a playoff would appeal to a new demographic of fans, that would tune in to see the new playoff format. and nascar would have all these new fans. and then everyone would realize that the playoff format is stupid and quit tuning in.

you can only skin a sheep once.

I'm still trying to figure out why comments Kyle Petty made several months ago are just now "news".

OUCH !!!!!

GEEZE Whizzer, open mouth, insert foot !!!!

Well, I always wondered what humble pie tasted like and now I know.
