The weather held out for the 2003 Canadian Grand Prix, but many of the cars did not. From start to finish many of the cars lost front wings, tires, brakes, engines, and even rear view mirrors. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is known to be rough on both cars and drivers and today's race was no exception. Only eleven cars were able to make it across the finish line at the end of the day, though not all in one piece.
In the end, it was a duel between Ferrari's Michael Schumacher and Williams BMW's Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya, and Renault's Fernando Alonso for the race win. All four cars crossed the finish line within 4.481 seconds of one another. Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello damaged his front wing during the start of the race fought his way back to finish fifth. McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen started last from the pit lane, but managed to finish the race in sixth position. Jaguar's Mark Webber and Toyota's Olivier Panis rounded out the final points paying positions.
Michael Schumacher's win for Ferrari gives him the lead in the Drivers' Championship for the first time this season, and also helped the scuderia regain the lead in the Constructors' Championship from McLaren. The F1 circus now heads off to the Nurburgring for the European Grand Prix, and it now appears as though McLaren's new MP4-18 will not appear until the British Grand Prix. At the halfway point of the season there is still a lot of racing left and many questions to be answered.
