Jeff Gordon may get his speedway. NASCAR racing could be roaring into Ontario as soon as 2014.

FORT ERIE—On Monday, the Ontario Municipal Board rejected all appeals against the proposed Canadian Motor Speedway in Fort Erie, opening the door for groundbreaking on a $400 million, 65,000-seat facility near the Peace Bridge.

The land — in a town that recently lost live horse racing and slots — has been purchased and it’s believed the major investors are from Kuwait. Construction is expected to take 18 months.

I sure would have liked to have seen this be a smaller track but it looks like one that I'd venture to. That's only a 3 1/2 hour drive for me.

Nice looking facility and designed by Jeff Gordon. Right on  However, I don't expect to see a cup race there anytime soon.

In the lower right corner of the picture is what I would guess to be a challenging go-kart track.
Too bad the other track isn't more like that!

Nice to here, since we've heard this idea for like 5 years.

Glad to hear this is happening and that it's not a cookie-cutter! :) Hope NASCAR decides to race there. Looks different than any other track we race at now.

I believe it's going to be 1 mile.

NASCAR ain't 'Field of Dreams'. If you build it, they ain't necessarily going to come. Trucks and N'wide, maybe.

Yes, I know. I would have liked to have seen it be smaller than a mile. Half to 3/4 mile tracks put on great racing and seating in not an issue with a track that length.

I'd 3 1/2 hours for a Truck/Nationwide weekend. No Cup's fine.

I am happy to hear this is actually taking shape. Even if only Trucks/Nationwide are there, I will definitely make my way to it from Toronto.

So clearly that 2014 goal was missed...

I'd be surprised if the next deadline of the third quarter of 2016 is met. I was just reading some of the archived news off of their website and it says that the first phase of construction is completed which was the relocation of a creek running through the property. It also says that the design of facility is near completion. I wonder if they can possibly complete this in two years if the designs haven't even been completed yet? It sure sounds like there is a lot of work to be accomplished in a short period of time.
