Can't think straight tonight,,,

A very good friend was taken to the hospital tonight. He's a diabetic, he lost his left leg above the knee two years ago. He has a nasty infection of some sort in his right foot and ankle . He's hoping he can keep his right leg but it's not a sure thing.
One tough prick, 27 years Army. You name it, he's BTDT. Got all sorts of T-shirts, Special Forces, ranger, jumped out of perfectly good airplanes.
Knew it was coming, we've talked for hour after hour for days. His head isn't in a good place about this, I've tried my best but I think I'm a failure at this counselling stuff.

Just learned my buddy John lost his fight tonight. Early today he thanked me for hanging in there, he knew he wasn't going to make it. I'm going to miss that cantankerous bastard. RIP John, you earned it.
