8 is the number Earnhardt Jr. chose to drive as a tribute to his grandfather, Ralph Earnhardt.

Should he change to #3?

I'm not a Senior or Jr fan, but I think he should keep his own number. Be his own person.

Big E paid Stavola racing some big money for their option to the number --- they had first choice back in the late 90s.

Dale Jr. has said time and again, that he doesn't want to be put into the #3 until late in his career --- when he thinks he's earned it.

The option on the #8 belongs to DEI --- only if they choose not to renew the number next year, could Dale new team lease it from NASCAR. Of course, the option could be purchased, but I bet Teresa would ask BIG money --- just to get back at Junior.
