Edwards Makes Mexico Trip
Carl Edwards
Following his second day of NASCAR Busch Series testing at Las Vegas on Tuesday, Carl Edwards (No. 60 Ameriquest/Henkel Ford) will head to Mexico City for a one-day media blitz in advance of the March 5 road-course race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Wednesday.
Edwards, the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year who finished third in the final championship standings, placed third in the inaugural event last season. Edwards also finished third in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup last season.
Edwards will be the featured guest at a media gathering at the Hotel Presidente in Mexico City beginning at 10:00 a.m. (11 a.m. ET). Upwards of 100 media members from around the country are expected to attend.
Following the press conference, Edwards will meet with some of the top media outlets in Mexico for one-on-one interview opportunities at the 2.518-mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez facility including newspapers Reforma, Record, Mileneo and Universal. Televisa, the No. 1 network in Mexico, will also speak with Edwards.
Last year, 1994 NASCAR Busch Series champion David Green made the trek to Mexico City in support of the race. “The opportunity to visit the area and the community prior to our race was a great honor,” Green said. “To be able get a sneak preview of the fan support in Mexico was very exciting.”
While at the track, Edwards will participate in a race promotion that Record has created, where the publication seeks to find the “Biggest NASCAR Fan in Mexico.” Fans will come to the track on Wednesday during Edwards’ visit, and he will choose those who he believes fill the bill. “Some crazy things will happen,” said Ramon Osorio, Public Relations and Press Manager for OCESA. The winners will receive race tickets and have a meet and greet with Edwards.
Edwards will return to Daytona following his Mexico City trip to participate in NASCAR Media Day activities on Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Daytona 500 Club tent. Media Day runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Carl Edwards Will Appear On "24"
Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion, traveled to Chatsworth, Calif. to appear in his first role in a primetime drama. Edwards, who was in town to promote the upcoming race at California Speedway on February 26, took part in the filming of FOX's hit show "24" that is set to air Monday, April 3 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). This wasn't Edwards' first foray into acting as he made a guest appearance as himself on the hit soap opera "The Guiding Light" back in October of 2005. Edwards arrived early to the set for a behind-the-scenes tour. After some makeup, a wardrobe fitting and meeting with director Jon Cassar, Edwards was ready to break a leg.
