I can't believe this..

Edward's allowed to run for ROTY [in Busch]: on Speed Channel's NASCAR Live on Tuesday, it was reported b Ken Squire that Carl Edwards, the Roush Racing driver in the Cup Series #99 and Busch Series #60, will be allowed to run for the 2005 Busch Series Rookie of the Year award.(2-15-2005)

So let's see, I believe that Rusty Wallace still has a few races left in the Busch series before he loses his elligibility.

I've got nothing against Carl, but I can't see him running for ROY in the Busch series when he isn't even elligible for the award in the Cup series. What a crock.

What's the magic number in Cup? Under 7 races and you can still be a "rookie".........therefore illegible for ROTY? Something like that anyway. Carl ran more than the magic number last year.......so he was a rookie in 2004. A veteran in 2005! :) And I don't remember Carl running many Busch races ever.........let alone in 2004. So I can see where he could run for ROTY in Busch and not in Cup. It is weird, though!! A veteran Cup driver and a rookie Busch driver!! :D

Quirks of the rules!!

but he doesnt even have a full cup season under his belt it isnt too odd to run for roty in busch

besides its only the roty award who cares

Up until this point, the rule has been that if you had run 8 or more races in the series or a higher series, you were no longer elligible for ROY in that series or a lower series.

This is a NOT quirk in the rules, this a CHANGE of the rules.

Must have been a weak crop of ROY candidates in the Busch Series and Raybestos wanted some higher profile candidates.

harvick ran both and no one complained. now i really really don't like fords but carl seems like a good guy i say go for it. however embarrassing it might be.

No complaint about a driver runnign both series full-time. That isn't even vaguely realted to the issue of changing the rules of Rookie of the Year elligibility.

Under this set of rules, Ricky Rudd could still run for ROY in the Busch Series.

Exactly my point. Nothing wrong with anyone trying to run both series. Takes a lot of work but it's been done plenty. My whole point is that while he can't be considered a rookie in the Cup series, I just don't understand how he can still be a rookie in a lower series. Sheesh.

I do believe that Carl still has to have rookie stripes on his Cup car because he did not run a full season. Since he's just starting in Busch, he can run for ROTY. I have no problem with it.

When Dale Jr started in Busch, he ran too many races the year before, so ROTY was out for him in 98. He still had to have the yellow stripes in 98, though, because he'd not completed a full year.

In that case I'm pushing Ricky Rudd to wun for Busch Series ROY after he decides to call it quits in Cup. After all, he's hasn't run 8 races in a Busch season.
