CONCORD, N.C. - Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards will soon welcome a new addition to his family.
Edwards announced on Thursday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway that he and his wife, Kate, are expecting their first child – a baby girl – in mid-February.
“We’ve had fun with it, and Kate’s really excited,” Edwards said. “She’s telling people [about the pregnancy] because she could tell people were kind of looking at her like, ‘Damn, girl, you’re putting on some weight.’
“She’s really happy, and I’m happy too. It’s great.”
The couple, who became friends in their hometown of Columbia, Mo., were married on Jan. 3.
“It’s crazy,” Edwards said of the pregnancy. “You guys that have children know this. But we went in there for the ultrasound, the first one, and I’d seen all the pictures [of] what the baby was supposed to look like, and I was sitting there and all of a sudden it started moving, and I almost passed out. It was just wild.”
