EMPORIA, Va. - Carl Long lost his only car, but will have a ride after all in the NASCAR Nextel Cup race in Las Vegas on March 7.
Long, one of several non-regulars who filled out the 43-car field in last Sunday's race in Rockingham, N.C., went out in a spectacular barrel-rolling crash that destroyed car. He finished 38th.
But Busch Series regular Hermie Sadler, also an occasional Cup driver, has solved Long's ride problem, at least short term. It was announced Wednesday that Long will drive the SCORE Motorsports Pontiac in Las Vegas, and possibly the next week at Atlanta.
"Carl and I talked last Friday at Rockingham, and it seemed like a win-win situation for both of us," said Sadler, SCORE Motorsports co-owner with former NBA player Bryant Stith. "We are looking to have a presence in the Nextel Cup series, and this opportunity allows us to do that while allowing me to focus my attention to the performance of our Busch series team.
"It also gives Carl the opportunity to race while he continues to pursue some other opportunities."

I say congratulations to Carl Long and kudos to Hermie Sadler for helping Carl out after he destroyed the only car he owned.
