Carnage could define Cup race in Vegas

I'd like to think that the rubber laid down today would help, but I doubt it. The tires are wrong for the track, set ups aren't working, and Vegas wants a second date?

It isn't the fault of the track, it is the tire compound. Why didn't Good Year come with the same tire that they tested with earlier? These guys can handle the speed, that was the whole point with the 20 degree banking. I put the blame on Nascar and Good Year not Vegas. Having attended 6 races there over the last 8 years, i would say they deserve a second date. The place is always packed, every year there are more seats added. I believe it seats 135,000 now or there abouts. When i went to my first race there in 1999 i think the seating was 85,000. From what i can see the place is better than ever. I sold my tickets this year , but plan on going next year for sure. Hopefully Good Year and Nascar will get on the same page by then.

Kevin Harvick disagrees with you:

"The race will suck," said Kevin Harvick, who finished seventh. "The paving is awful. It's rough. They had some guys that pave parking lots out there doing it. It's pretty awful."

Good Lord, we've heard all of this before and many times it didn't pan out. The guys are going to race to the best of their ability and those that wreck will cry foul while those who don't will praise the track. Everyone will be racing on the same conditions and they all know what to expect. These guys are pros and they will do just fine.

Brings me back to the days when Rusty was always crying about the tires.

The capacity was 140,000 in 2003. They are just under 200,000 now with the new configuration. LVMS will have as many spectators for practice and qualifying as some tracks have for the race. I need to get to a Vegas race...

Yep, and they will have the standard wreck a few laps before the end and then finish under G/W/C/ like usual.

I think the racing is great so far on the new surface...at least when they aren't wrecking. I think with the new configuration, they will get a second date, and if I had my way, it would be one of California's races, considering they can barely get half the stands full. That way Vegas gets its second date, California is relieved of theirs, and NASCAR gets to keep its # of races out west the same.

Once NASCAR & Goodyear get on the same page, it will be much better.
