The 2018 CARS Tour season gets underway tomorrow at Tri-County Motor Speedway, a track known for producing three-wide racing and thrilling finishes. The field for tomorrow is stacked, one of the most competitive fields in CARS history.

Lee Pulliam, Josh Berry, Deac McCaskill, Timothy Peters, Tommy Lemons Jr, Dexter Canipe Jr, Bobby McCarty, Justin Johnson, Justin Carroll, Layne Riggws, Chad McCumbee, Ty Gibbs, Sam Mayer, Craig Moore, Ryan Repko and several more in the 36 (!!!) car entry list.

I'm so pumped for tomorrow. If you live in Central or Western North Carolina, this is the damn place to be.

:bounce:

Seems like that track is coming apart wonder if they have any way to fix it.

There is. I've heard rumors that an independently wealthy track owner is strongly considering buying Tri-County. If it's true and if it's who I've heard it was, I'd expect to see some money spent on repairs and upgrades.

Cars tour coming to Myrtle Beach this weekend had an excellent modified and late model race last week weather is good high 50s clear skies. Should be a good one

As of now, my plan is to go to South Boston then Martinsville. But if SoBo cancels soon, like they should, I might go to the CARS Tour race tomorrow.

Pretty disappointing crowd in Myrtle Beach, if CARS came (nope) to the west coast I'd support.

And Myrtle Beach gets the highest car counts in the region, by a mile, for their weekly shows. Yet nobody comes.

Same thing as Motor Mile. They'd get 25-30 cars while everyone else got half that, and the stands would be empty during the races. Don't understand why fans go to tracks that don't have car counts, then bitch and whine about it on social, and refuse to support the tracks that do things to get strong car counts.

Pulliam went worst to first so quick that was an amazing bit of driving

Falling back to save tires is standard operating procedure, but I've never seen it tried at that extreme.

Lee Pulliam is so ungodly good in these cars, it's unreal. And he just keeps getting better. If the track hadn't fallen apart at Tri-County, knocking his alternator belt loose, he'd be two for two.

Next up for the CARS Tour: Wake County Speedway in Raleigh. :growl::growl::growl:

This race has been circled on my calendar since it was announced.

Why are the car counts so bad down there? I can’t imagine a sprint car class up here ever with less than 30 cars, hell last year the one race had 48 cars enter for the 410s with only 22 in the feature. When WoO came to Attica for the Brad Doty that featured Kyle Larson, 60 cars qualified

As someone who lives 5 or so miles from the track i can tell you that no effort is made to advertize for the racing. In a tourist town that attracts many people on a daily basis from meat and potato states sporting racing attire ranging from Sprint Cars to bikes. I'll tell them about upcoming races if it comes up in conversation and they have NO IDEA we even have a track! The only adverts you see are for the driving experience stuff.

I'd rather support dirt tracks anymore to be honest but I'm a dirt guy.

The crowd for the NASCAR Modified tour wasn't bad. The stands were not full, but the stands at Myrtle Beach are bigger than the average short tracks IMO. Quite wide stands.
I don't think it was a great idea to have 2 of their bigger events 2 weeks in a row. Some people that are broke may have chose one or the other, and the NWMT is the bigger race...
Nice place though, would be nice to see a K&N Pro Series race there..
I had not been to Myrtle Beach (the city) in years, so it was fun going back. The WMT race was my first time to the track. Always wanted to see Hooters Pro Cup there back in the day...

Looks like the Modified crowd was halfway decent, but I'm not sure why the CARS Tour can't at least get half of what the Modified race got.

They'll have a fine crowd at Wake County for the CARS Tour. That race is going to be so ******* excellent.

Idk... weather looks ******. Bummer. Was planning to finally catch a cars race.

Maybe @AndyMarquisLive knows, Does the CARS Tour usually postpone races to Sunday? or do they just cancel the whole weekend if it rains? Sundays weather looks better for that area..

Well, Sunday's forecast isn't much better here, at least from what I've seen. But no it won't be postponed to Sunday, probably to a later weekend.

This region (Central/Eastern NC) can't buy any luck. If there's actually a race fans anticipate, sans the Thanksgiving Classic, it gets rained out. CARS Tour had numerous postponements when they ran at Southern National.

Hopefully Nashville can get the North South Challenge in this weekend. That's my favorite track, and love watching the late models on it. Speed 51 is offering live video so that will be nice.

Thats where i'm planning on going. Looks like its gonna be cold, but the rain shouldn't be there during show time.
Nice field for both the ARCA race and the CRA super late models.
Lot of unexpected names on the SLM list. Has Stewart Friesen ever ran an SLM race?

What was their call?

I hate how these local series suspend guys who fight while NASCAR says "boys have at it". I think there's a happy middle-ground.

I think CARS Tour had to do "something" because the Wild West mentality looks bad. But this is a grotesque overreaction IMO. His suspension should have a race or two more than Jake Crum and Annabeth Crum's suspensions, but the whole season is a little extreme.

BS call. With the attention this just brought to the series, they should be thanking the Setzers.

Agree and disagree.

They suspended Jake and Annabeth Crum last year for five races, which is what Setzer has been suspended for. That was appealed and reduced to three races. They also suspended Ryan Wilson a couple years ago for a fight.

You can't just decide, in this instance, fighting is okay because it brought attention. That looks even worse on the tour.

Furthermore, much of the reaction in the late model community is because of who it is. If this was any other driver, most would support the decision. But Brandon Setzer is, to this region, what Chase Elliott is to NASCAR. He's the son of an icon (Dennis Setzer) and he's a low budget racer who works on his own cars.

So, the more the facts come out, the more it looks like CARS Tour made the right decision.

Publishing the statement was the problem. They've never published penalty reports before and someone chose to this time. And then, when called out for using the fight in promotion, the person took down photos and videos of the altercation and asked others to do the same, both with articles about the suspension and the altercation.

(I dare them to ask me to take down my photos of the fight, because I will be disinclined to acquiesce to their request)

I read that he was suspended for the rest of the year.

And more comes out.

Next, McNelly spoke to Short Track Scene by phone on Wednesday afternoon to provide additional context and feedback.

He said that he wanted to make clear that there was more to the fight than what the video broadcast revealed, specifically as it relates to Dennis Setzer physically assaulting François Lessard — Raphael’s father, breaking his glasses in the process.

All that was publicly known is that Brandon Setzer charged towards the KBM pit area, attempted a ‘superman punch’ before being tackled by crew members and track security.

The photos and videos really only captured Brandon Setzer flying in with the "Superman punch" on Mt. Cody and getting taken down in the process.
