Champ Car alters scoring
Star report
February 6, 2004
The scoring system for the Champ Car World Series will change in 2004, with the top 20 finishers receiving points.
Previously, only the top 12 scored.
The winner will receive 31 points with second getting 27. The rest of the top 10 will receive two points fewer than the previous finisher.
The bottom 10 will be separated by one point.
In addition, single points will be given to the drivers who lead a lap, run the fastest lap of the race and improve the most positions in the race. As has been the case for the past two seasons, one point will go to the leaders of the Friday and Saturday qualifying sessions on road and street circuits.
