Sometimes rookies can be a blessing to our sport. They get great equipment and their teams are pumped by their bright new star's potential, and they succeed. Look at some of the rookies we've had the past couple years and the equipment and the backing they've had behind them. It's amazing.
But at the same time these rookie superstars are being born, some do enter the sport too early in teams that might not be as strong, and end up falling to the wayside and out of our sport. Jason Leffler, Andy Houston, Jeff Fuller, Mike Bliss, and several others ended up damaging their careers by trying to move up to early and not having the same backing that their other rookie competitors like Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Matt Kenseth, and now Jimmie Johnson an Ryan Newman have.
Now it looks like we are going to have another interesting line-up of rookie drivers next year like Greg Biffle in a Roush car, Casey Mears with Hendrick (?), Jack Sprague with help from Hendrick, and Jamie McMurray with Chip Gannassi. These are rides that veterans would have killed (not literally) for to have a chance in, but they are going to the rookies in the hope of finding bright new stars. As rookies, they have to try and make their move to Cup, but they take the risk of trying to move up too quickly and irreversibly affecting their reputation and racing careers.
