Catch me if you can
August 9, 2007
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- There's a reason why NASCAR Nextel Cup Series points leader Jeff Gordon needs a telescope to see second-place Denny Hamlin. He's better -- far better -- than any other driver during crunch time.

Gordon leads all drivers in the "Closer" statistical category, picking up a net total of 80 positions during the last 10% of races -- a prime reason he finds himself comfortably leading the series standings.

Gordon has more than double the amount of Closer positions of the second-place drivers in the category. David Gilliland and Robby Gordon are tied for second with 39 positions improved.

Gordon has picked up a total of 318 points because of an end-of-race combination of clutch performance and pit strategy. His lead in the series standings over Hamlin is 366.

The only problem is that come chase time Nascar equals the playing field.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and Jeff. :beerbang:

Thanks Tk!!! :punkrocke :whoopee:

It will be that much sweeter if I can get down there Sunday. I was all excited thinking I was going to win tickets w/pit passes on ebay. I was winning one auction until the last couple of min. and then one of those "auto bidders" swept in and stole it from me. I tried to win several of them, but damn those auto bots.......

Now my only hope is general admission or someone selling tickets outside the gate - which happens often. That is.. if my husband starts being a bit more supportive about it. He's the one who mentioned doing that since he's had people try to sell him tickets on the way in..... and then he goes back to saying how much better the race will be on TV. Nothing like getting my hopes up and then shooting them down. He doesn't want to go at all. My daughter who has been several times didn't want to go at first either and then finally said she would go w/me. My husband was talking about seating and pros and cons and then started the negative talk.

Yesterday there was a full-sized "poster" of Jeff in our local paper. Today is Jr. Tomorrow there's supposed to be a 10 page feature on the race. I got the Jeff poster out yesterday. Today he came home and asked if I got the Jr. one. I told him I was depressed. I think I'm going to start working on squeezing out tears.  ;)

LOL I guess your hubby is a Jr fan.

Not really!!! LOL When I first got crazy about NASCAR and Gordon I finally thought to ask him what his favorite driver is. He said he didn't really have a favorite. I know some he DOES like though.... he doesn't really dislike any. He likes Tony, Jeff Burton and he's mentioned a bunch of others...and he never disses Jeff, but sometimes he says.... "Jr can do no wrong...." when NASCAR gets down on other drivers. :) Yes.... he's saying it sarcastically. LOL

My season's done been made after the Daytona 500.

Harvick won the 500 and Montoya won a Nextel Cup race. Now, if Mark wins and Jeffie loses the Cup, it'll be perfect. :D
