This movie footage was taken on V-J Day in Honolulu. I was nearly nine years old at the time and my family was visiting my uncle in Albany, NY. When we heard the news, my father, uncle and I drove downtown Albany to watch the celebration. Then we drove down the next morning and what a sight. Paper, empty liquor and beer bottles everywhere! People were really happy the wars were finally over. A different time and different way to celebrate and it can be seen on this movie clip. It takes a little over three minutes to view. Give it time to load. It is worth it.

RI is the only state that still celebrates VJ day. A paid holiday for many people.
