A month ago NASCAR chairman Brian France promised a “robust discussion” with track promoters about reshaping the 2015 Sprint Cup Series schedule.

Now it seems there only will be minor tweaks to a lineup that’s been plagued by weather problems, low attendance and a lack of off days.

No matter what next year’s lineup looks like, it’s certain to start around Valentine’s Day and end a week short of Thanksgiving, making it the longest professional season in team sports.

The talk of moving the season-finale from the Miami-Homestead Speedway to Las Vegas was squelched recently when Ford extended its contract with the South Florida racetrack to sponsor “championship weekend” through 2019. That means the season will continue to end in late November at Homestead.

It’s also a certainty the season will start in February with the Daytona 500.

What happens between those book-end events will remain a mystery until the schedule is released in September.

I like that we end on a cookie-cutter track. Road courses and plate tracks are too unpredictable. Besides, Brian would sh!t a brick if all 4 championship contenders got caught up in The Big One.

Since NASCAR wants to be football, I think the 26th race (Richmond) should be a wild card race. Have everyone who's won a race take the week off and anyone who isn't locked in to the Chase runs at Richmond to decide the rest of the Chase Grid.

best idea ya had all yr andy ! i like it.

The NFL could learn a lot from NASCAR. They are losing billions by refusing name their series the 'Nabisco Football League'.

End on a short or intermediate track.

Everyone knows that having the chase being filled with 1.5 miler cookie cutters gives an unfair advantage to teams with stronger 1.5 mile programs. If theres gonna be a play off system at least do it right with a good variety of tracks - NASCAR knows this & does absolutely 0 about it.

Imo its the reason why JJ has won 6 out of the last 8 championships. Without this chase mockery, fans wouldnt have been lost when JJ won 5 in a row. 5 in a row in NASCAR? Thats absurd.
