This visitor from across the pond is coming to Charlotte for UAW GM 500. Have already bought Turn 4 tickets [here's hoping the recommendation I got is right!!]. However - can I purchase pit passes and, more to the point, are they worth the money? Any other tips for a first time visitor to Charlotte would be appreciated.

What's the long term weather forecast for Oct 13?

I always sit in turn one at Charlotte, but I know of no bad seats at that track.

The Charlotte track is fairly easy to get to, even if you are unfamiliar with the area. Traffic flows well in and out. The only pit passes I have ever had were at Bristol, and I won those, so I can't help much on that aspect.

My best advice is: At all costs, no matter what it takes, under no circumstances, should you even remotely consider purchasing the boxed fried chicken. :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

Have fun, and eat a burger! :p

I live 9 Miles from Lowes Motor Speedway! Turn 4 Tickets are definately good but The Higher up the better of course! If pit passes are affordable and you haven't been down there before go for it! I also recommend going to see the Outlaws races on Friday and Saturday night. The Lowes Dirt track is right across the street from the Big Track. You can get a package deal for all the races. Pole Night, Both Outlaws and the Busch races. We did that back in May and it worked pretty well! Be sure to get to the track early on Sunday if you want a parking spot that will allow for easy and quick exit after the race. They have a few parking lots that really bury your car and it takes forever to get out of there if you get stuck in them (particularly the parking area behind the Tom Johnson Camping center).

There are plenty of other things to do that week!

1. Speed street in Charlotte has events during most of next week!
2. Hendrick shop is only a few miles from the track but somewhat hard to find! If you drive up speedway Blvd from Hooters Restaurant to the track make a right on 29 and then take your next right at the light (about 300 yards or so from Speedway Blvd). Go approximately 2 miles and you will see a small sign on the left that says Hendrick Motor Sports Make a right and drive down the very ugly looking road and the Showroom will be your first building on the right! The road this place is on seems like the most country road you have ever seen! Definately Stealthy
place !

3. Jack Roush shops are near the track as well. If you are at the track take Speedway Blvd back toward I 85 and continue straight past the mall (Concord Mills) on your left. Go until the road ends and make a right. Follow signs to the Airport (about a mile) Turn right into the airport and you will see the shops on your right. The 10 and 35 cars shop is directly behind the Rousch shops. Only about 3 or 4 miles from Lowes Motor Speedway.

4. If you have time go up to Mooresville (Race City) about 25 miles from Charlotte. Take Rt 136 from Concord to Mooresville. You will cross through Coddle Creek (Dale Earnhardt's home). Ab out 10 miles past there you will find DEI on the right hand side of road. No signs but you will know by all the fences and the DEI Flag! Great place to check out. There are tons of shops in Mooresville. Get on 150/152 in mooresville and go west. Cross I-77 and make the FIRST left. You will find Penske South, Chip Ganasse, Robert Yates and many other shops right there.

Good Luck

I basically wrote a book on Charlotte Motor Speedway. I wonder if I could sell this thing?????????

:D

Tn Ward fan: Bring your own food would be even better!!!

davidbravo ---- if this is your first race, definitely get some pit passes. Call the track.

Enjoy yourself. There are no really bad seats at Charlotte. Turn 4 should let you see the entire length of pit road. It can get very interesting.

While you're over here, try some Grits with your breakfast. A good Southren staple.

Skip the Grits and Go to Hooters! Its within walking distance of the track!

"Skip the Grits" are you a transplant to the South? Hooters near the track on race day, you would have to lub yourself with oil just to get in. Come to think of it, that could be fun, but thats another story.

Grits ain't that good. Sorry :p

You don't go to Hooters for the food! At least I don't!

Forget the grits. Barfo stuff. But if anybody can suggest a good southern bar-b-que rib joint you are in for a taste sensation.

Have a great time btw:)

There is a BBQ joint next to McDonalds on Speedway BLVD. I haven't been there yet but it looks pretty good!

I believe its called Sonny's BBQ!

Man o Man!Give me a couple of eggs over easy, grits, bacon, sausage gravy, and a couple of homemade biscuits.I am set for breakfast. Now lunch at Hooters has its advantages too don't get me wrong,But the BBQ is the way to go for sure. ;)

Bubba's on statesville ave is the best for Vinegar based BBQ if your in Charlotte

Thanks for the advice folks - it sounds as if i ought to do some on the ground research into the eating habits of NASCAR fans!!
