- Carl Edwards: 38th-place finish or better (39th with lap led, 40th with most laps led)
- Kevin Harvick: 31st-place finish or better (32nd with lap led, 33rd with most laps led)
- Kyle Busch: 10th-place finish or better (11th with lap led, 12th with most laps led)
- Matt Kenseth: 7th-place finish or better (8th with lap led, 9th with most laps led)

Kenseth has at least clinched a wild card spot.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (33 points cushion over 11th), Kasey Kahne (20 points cushion), Greg Biffle (17 points cushion) and Joey Logano (4 point cushion) all conceivably could reach the 49-point magic number.)

Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano and Greg Biffle – all of whom have one win this season – can clinch at least a Wild Card spot with a win and some help.

I think everyone clinches that can with good finishes.. JR will get closer because he's decent at Atl. Same with Kahne. I think Biffle will fall back and Truex will have a bad day.

Newman is about to make the chase from like 15th place. lol

That blows.

C'mon Gordon, one win will go a long way.

Eyes on Brad at Atlanta.

I think Truex will surprise some people this weekend and have a good run at Atlanta. He came very close to winning this race last year. If Brad K can win at Pocono with a broken ankle, why can't Truex have a good run at Atlanta with a broken wrist?

At pocono you are in cruise control for the most part. Atlanta is rough. You have to be up on that wheel every single lap.

Wow , they have cruise control ? Really ? Pocono is one of the most physical tracks on the circuit . More like a road course / flat track than an oval. With the three different corners , the bumps and the shifting , it's probably one of the more difficult tracks to race well.

I was reffering more to the straightaways. You can more or less catch your breath while going through there.

No need to get your bruised ego all out of shape. Must be bipolar or something eh? Always looking for e-fights.

Edwards and Harvick both have the best shot and will more than likely clinch a spot. Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to Atlanta and Richmond.

Atlanta belongs to JJ and Richmond belongs to KyBu

Alan gotta bring those long run cars for once.

Atlanta is the place where a long run car will pay off.

JJ and Chad are too busy doing R&D. :D

Id say less... yeah theyre going straight.. but theyre travelling over 200mph.. now I duno how fast you've gone in a car before.. Ive gone about 120 before and that was crazy fast.

29 teams have run all 24 races so far this season with two races left to make the Chase. Feel free to correct my math if I'm wrong but that means that 41% of the teams participating in all of the races this season are going to make the Chase. Not too far away from being half the field. I found that interesting, that's all.

I'd really like to see Keselowski, Kurt Busch or Gordon win this week leaving potentially 6 drivers with a chance to make it come Richmond. If there is one thing that the chase did for the sport, it's put a spotlight on what would otherwise be a mediocre season. Good for the sponsors, I guess. More attention will be paid over the next couple weeks of who might get in vs. who is already in.

Id like to be interested in seeing that... but Im not... right now for me its all about Joey making his first chase regardless of the expense of anyone else lol. I like the cushion he has now. If Brad or Kurt of Jeff win... no more cushion.

I'm not sure that there's ever been any confusion on where you stand. ;)

LOL I don't mean the numbers make the chances.. I just like the 22 point lead with 2 to go.. plus I find it ironic that those r the Penske car numbers...

Im hoping that Joey runs well enough at Atlanta that he has to just have like a top 20 at Richmond to make the chase... its gona be interesting that's for sure.

What would be real interesting is if this weekend.....

Jeff Gordon wins scoring 48 points, Kurt Busch comes in 2nd scoring 44 points, Brad Keselowski finishes 3rd earning 41 points and finally Joey Logano finishes 7th earning 37 points thus creating a four way tie in the points. That would be awesome leading into Richmond with a win and you're in scenario. While the numbers may not actually work out to the actual points, you get my line of thinking here.

That would be crazy .. this is such a close race to the chase for those guys there's no way this will be anticlimactic imo.

For those who think the chase doesn't mean anything , watch us spend the next two weeks talking about the 12th , 13th and 14th place drivers . Absolutely unheard of before the chase .

Not sure that anyone said the Chase doesn't mean anything but regardless of people talking about 12-14, I'm still not a fan of how the Champion is determined anymore for all of the reasons that I've stated in all of the 'Chase' threads. Personally, I think the best thing that could happen is that someone that could never have won the Championship run away with the thing. Many may look at that as being a good thing. I think it would simply show that it's nothing more than made for TV drama. While I understand that's what BF desires, I'm still a fan of the best driver over the entire season taking home the hardware. All of that being said, I'm still a huge fan of the racing itself.

No one has probably noticed, but Paul Menard has been on a hot streak as of late too, with 3 straight top-10 finishes. He's climbed to 17th in points, so if he someway somehow wins at Atlanta, throw his name into the mix as well.

True... buuut I don't see that happening. Maybe another top 10.
