Chase track lottery idea.

Each year at the Daytona 500 have a drawing to pick the chase tracks for the next season. Have the drawing sometime during speed weeks. Have it set up like a lottery drawing with all the tracks eligible.

This would give all the tracks a chance to host a chase race and maybe a championship race, As well as testing the drivers abilities.

What do you think?

Personally I think they have a good selection of tracks. They could get rid of one of these 1.5ers and get that road course in there and I'm fine with the Chase tracks. That's really the only thing that they are missing. That and maybe one more short track.

I agree, I was just thinking it may help to move the races around to allow some tracks to benefit financially from a chase race or hosting a championship race.

I hear ya. For the most part though, the tracks are owned by two entities. ISC & SMS. It would probably be the same two organizations that benefit from the changes. In other words, it'd be a wash.

Does anyone out there know what races are in the Chase that aren't owned by one of those two organizations? I can't think of one off hand. I will look it up though.

My good idea just turned into a brain fart. :flushed:

Current Chase tracks.

Chicago - ISC
Loudon - SMS
Dover - Neiter..... yet
Kansas - ISC
Charlotte - SMS
Talladega - ISC
Martinsville - ISC
Fort Worth - SMS
Phoenix - ISC
Homestead - ISC

Only Dover I guess.

I like the idea, but you can't wait until February to announce. Tracks need lots of time to plan and prepare.

I like the idea in a fantasy world. in reality, it would never happen, not because of weather but because these dates are negotiated and agreed upon by Nascar and the track. Plus, with a lottery, it would be possible that the last chase race and first chase race could be back to back.

The tracks drawn to be in the chase wouldn't have to be run in the order they're drawn. You could draw 10 and set the schedule around those 10.

Lottery drawing results.

1- Daytona
2- Talladega
3- Texas
4- Michigan
5- Kentucky
6- Indianapolis
7- Phoenix
8- Fontana
9- Dover
10- Atlanta

I can imagine the screaming on here then. If we've got to have the damn thing lets just take out a 1 1/2er and add a road course and leave it alone.

If it were me and I was in charge I'd only put Bristol, Martinsville, Richmond, Talladega, Watkins Glen, Atlanta, Darlington, Phoenix, Martinsville & Martinsville in the hat to choose from.

Arranging Nascar dates is very different than arranging Sunday school picnics . People plan to attend races years in advance ,even come from other countries. Race sponsorships are negotiated years in advance and television contracts are negotiated years in advance . What everybody (except occasional home TV viewers ) needs is a consistant date and place that is not subject to change and hopefully not effected by bad weather. The mid February date for the Daytona 500 , Bristol night race date , the Darlington Southern 500 date , the Charlotte 500 date , should all be etched in stone . Changing race dates is not acceptable .

Weather are tradition are factors that will prevent it from ever happening, but excluding 13 tracks from the championship is inexcusable. I'll stop there before I go on another Chase rant.

Nobody is talking about changing any of the races you mentioned. Just the last 10 chase races. I believe a year and a half is enough time to make plans to attend a race.

Those were examples of why not to change race dates . They become the expected norm . Change the date and thousands of people will show up at the wrong track . You don't watch commercials?

I can't think of any chase race that is such a sacred cow that it can't be moved or left out in favor of another track.

The Southern 500 has heritage...The Hollywood Casino 400...not so much.

Somebody post a clip of Michael Waltrip going to the wrong track last time they changed a racedate please.

As long as there isn't any more plate races, I'm down to making some track changes.

I think Talladega should go in favor of a road course.

Lottery drawing results should look like this:

  1. Bristol
  2. Lonesome Pine
  3. Franklin County
  4. Baltimore
  5. Langley
  6. Hickory
  7. Bowman Gray
  8. Kingsport
  9. Martinsville
  10. Charlotte County
They'd end up looking like this
  1. Chicago
  2. Kentucky
  3. Kansas
  4. Loudon
  5. Charlotte
  6. Dover
  7. Talladega
  8. Las Vegas
  9. California
  10. Homestead

This isn't 2002 anymore. Tracks are lucky if they get sponsorship years in advance or if people plan to go to a race years in advance. That doesn't happen anymore.

Some of these races barely get sponsors a few weeks before the race.

Since we're dreaming, why not dream big?

1. Kansas (Cookie Cutter)
2.Talladega (Super Speedway)
3. Eldora (Dirt)
4. Road America (Road Course)
5.Martinsville (Short Track)
6. Kentucky (Cookie Cutter)
7. Indianapolis (Super Speedway)
8. Occoneechee (Dirt)
9. Sonoma (Road Course)
10. Bristol (Short Track)

It would be an entertaining chase, Would it not?

If it were me I'd only put in 8 tracks and see how long it took Nascar to add 3 to it. ( for the ones that don't get it 8+3 =11)
