Welcome! That's an interesting topic for a first post!

I know a few years back there was a Jimmy Spencer fan that was livid about the old chassis' that Danica Patrick was receiving at SHR but I haven't heard much about it since.

I don't think they list chassis anymore. I think they were listed on Jayski but they changed that all up when it was sold and that part was lost I believe. Somebody probably knows more than I do about it.

I doubt a Toyota is using a Ford Chassis, not complete anyway. The front clip on a Ford is
specific to holding the Ford engine. When Petty went to Ford they had to change all their front clips for that motor.

Yes its possible. There is no designated manufacturer chassis so they are interchangeable with some modifications.

To answer your first question, if you have access to the car you can look for the builder plate which will tell you who built it and what year, other then that I'm not sure there is a tracking data base.

it's funny because the chassis is probably the most important component of the whole deal , yet the least mentioned and not followed thru its lifetime. .. finer points of engine building are also ignored.......surely becoming a ''spectator '' sport..

The Jayski website used to publish chassis numbers and brief histories of each one for most of the teams before every race.

Over time, more and more teams stopped providing the information because they didn’t want competitors to know what they were bringing. The exercise finally became pointless.

Teams buying older cars from others are most likely getting cars set up for the engines / body types they’re using.
A manufacturer switch is expensive.
