Chevrolet Clinches NASCAR Nextel Cup Manufacturers Championship - Title is 29th for Chevrolet since 1952 and 25th in Modern Era (since 1972): Jeff Gordon's victory in the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 23 clinched the 2005 manufacturers championship for Chevrolet in NASCAR’s premier division. With four races left in the season, Chevrolet has collected its 29th manufacturers crown and the 25th of NASCAR’s Modern Era, which began in 1972. A total of six different drivers have contributed to Chevy’s 16 victories in 32 races thus far this season. Chevy drivers who have posted wins this season include: Tony Stewart (5), Jeff Gordon (4), Jimmie Johnson (4) Kevin Harvick (1), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (1), and Kyle Busch (1). The 2005 manufacturers championship continues Chevrolet’s dominance of North America’s most popular motorsports series. Since 1972, GM Racing has earned 27 of the 34 manufacturers titles, with Chevrolet collecting 25 of those for an impressive .79 winning percentage (Buick has won the title twice). To date, Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 572 race wins, 448 wins in the Modern Era.

Awesome. So, in about a season and a half, they will have 600 wins. Kudos to Chevy.

That don't mean squat.
Chevy's are cheaper to build.
Last race there were 20 Chevys, 14 Dodges and only 9 Fords.
You'd figure that with 3 times as many entries, Chevy would have more than 5 more wins on the all-time list.
There's only 2 Chevys in the Chase, Ford has 5.
You do the math.

I like the *in the modern era* stuff. Man, Chevy has dominated the competition. 572 wins to Fords measly 567. At least they can win when the cars aren't truly "stock". 60% of the Fords in the top ten ?? I'll take that.

not olny are they cheeper to build, they last longer, plus you can get more h/p out out of a Chevy for 1/2 as much as a ford and the chevy will last 2x as long.

Plus, as DW said about the new Ford a few years ago. "Thats a good lookin' Monte Carlo" they all are baised off the MC. The Frame is basied off an Chevelle, the olny thing that is really baised off a Ford is the rear end. a Ford 9" rearend is the best for racing. I could go on and on about this.

What does the winningest driver in NHRA drive?

I have one ford truck that has over 700,000 miles on it in 14 years and still drive it all the time. Think I'll stick with the blue oval.

I've been driving my '63 F100 Unibody everyday for 24 years. I've never had a car payment.
